I liked this story much better the the first one that's for sure. As much as I love Janet Evanovich, I'm not above seeing her foibles now & again. This premise is already being explored on the tv show White Collar, & that sticks in my head as I read. If you have ever seen the delightful & delicious Matt Bomer as Neal, then you cannot help but to imagine him as the charming con man, Nick, only with brown eyes instead of blue. That being said, I thought the story worked better this time around & the pacing was much better as well. Some of the characters still feel a little worn, but I like Jake,Kate, & Nick as the core of the team. Mr. Goldberg & Mrs.Evanovich make a nice team writing-wise & the series shows promise. If they continue to collaborate & are willing to take some risks with characters instead of relying on what is most comfortable, then this could prove to be a wonderful series. That they made some of those changes on this story, gives me hope. After all, I can always find time for one more Evanovich book on my shelves. ;)

The second book is just as fun in the first. A cross between White Collar and RED (for the fun ridiculous factor, also that is how I picture Jake and his friends).

I love Kate and Nick and their ridiculous adventures and love reading each book to figure out what caper is next. Would this book with different authors? Probably not because they manage to get the right balance of humour and action to keep you reading til the end.
