Every now and then it's a treat to spend a Sunday afternoon reading an entire book. This book was a treat and well worth my time. It's a feel-good story about two people who somehow find each other despite circumstances that should separate them, with a healthy dose of foodie love thrown into the mix. I loved that the book had a good amount of detail about food, given that one of the main characters is a chef, but it made me want to go into my kitchen to whip something up, as opposed to weighing the story down.

This novel didn’t blow my mind but I enjoyed the foodie elements of the story. It fits the bill for a quick light hearted read.

"Does it hurt?” “Nothing a tough woman like me can’t handle. It hurts more to see those we love sad about something inevitable. We are born, we live, if we are lucky we love, then we die. That is the way, not something to mourn. Only mourn those who haven’t lived, who haven’t found love. They deserve your sadness, not us.” Twitter || Blog || Pinterest || Tumblr || Instagram || Facebook

The Coincidence of Coconut Cake is such a sweet read! It’s one of those books where not a lot happens but you are in love with the words and the story they tell anyway. It’s a great book to curl up with that won’t take up too much time. I loved Lou and Al’s relationship! It was so sweet and romantic and the drama was good but not off putting. It was the perfect book to read while I was in a bit of a slump.

Oh, Amy E. Reichert has done a good job in creating a sweet yet feisty romance story between Al and Lou. Lou has it all from being a successful restaurant owner to fantastic fiance but everything clashes when she catch her cheating fantastic fiance with another women. Everything is so not perfect in her world that things start changing in her life such as nasty review from popular columnist, Al. Al is very unhappy British man that he does not enjoy his column until he reviews Lou restaurant that his column becomes popular. They both meet unexpectedly at a pub that they both decide to chat with each other. Their romance starts off sweet and innocence but things get more complicated as they get closer with each other. I truly think that it is a sweet and cute romance between them but it will bite them in their ass since they are not up front about their career. There will be some pain when they discover who they are to each other that it will break the reader hearts. However, it will test if they are truly meant for each other since they share some true feelings between them. The Coincidence of Coconut Cake is a sweet romance that it will make the reader day with yummy food recipes such as the coconut cake! Four Stars!

Think "Little Shop Around the Corner", but with food! Lou owns a small restaurant. Al is a food critic writing under an assumed name. They meet outside of their respective jobs and agree not to talk about work. Unfortunately, Al is British and not in love with his new hometown of Milwaukee. Lou is showing him the sights of her hometown. The rest is a recipe for true love.

The Coincidence of Coconut Cake is about Lou, a small French restaurant owner and chef and Al a food critic. A chef and a food critic- sounds trouble right? With a sweet romance, several secrets that are bound to blow up and humour, the story will pull you in right from the very beginning. ⠀ The story was full of cliches and was so predictable but yet the author managed to keep me hooked till the very end. The writing style was definitely the highlight of the story. It had a narrative feel to it, like the story your parents or grandparents tell you on a cozy wintry night. ⠀ Not to mention the amazing food mentioned. The descriptions were so good I might have drooled a little while reading. Seriously, don’t read on an empty stomach. And the coconut cake recipe at the end was the cherry on top. ⠀ Milwaukee, Wisconsin was described so vividly here. I might add this beautiful city to the list of places I wanna visit someday. ⠀ The characters were very likeable. Al too, despite being a tinsey bit dramatic at a certain point and making some foolish choices to rectify his mistakes. His mistakes were exactly that. Human mistakes. Lou’s perspective was like a breath of fresh air. She was such a sweetheart to read. Selfless, understanding and goal-oriented Lou will definitely make a place in your heart. I loved how her dreams were set apart from the romance in the book. ⠀ I wish I could say the same for Devlin, that Devil’s spawn though. Can I please call him Devil? So Devil here was a self centred jerk and the entire time I just wanted to slap him to oblivion. ⠀ So if you're looking for a sweet romance with a touch of foodgasms, then definitely pick this book up. ⠀ Ps. Swipe to see the original picture. Buddy read this book with my moxie girls ⠀ ⠀ ⠀

To be perfectly honest, if this book wasn't set in Milwaukee I'm not sure how I would have liked it. The overall arc of the romance was a bit shallow and I wanted a bit more depth to the main characters, chef Lou and the "Sardonic British transplant" Al. They were really cute and I rooted for them, but found a bunch of things a little too unbelievable (view spoiler)[especially the fact they both are okay with hiding what they do for a living while 'dating' and how quickly Lou goes from being engaged to her shitty fiancee to being over it. Yes, he's shitty, but he's almost too shitty to make it believable that she was with him in the first place.' (hide spoiler)] That said, Reichert excels at making Milwaukee seem like a culinary delight, a place everyone should want to visit, or maybe even stay. She describes the pretty, shiny version of Milwaukee that we all wish it could be every day. I'm curious to see how Non-Milwaukee and non-native Wisconsite's will review this book, because I'm certainly biased. I would recommend for a quick read while camping or commuting.
