Can't say I loved the ending, but I thoroughly enjoyed this cast of characters, especially Walt Longmire. His witty banter and intellectual discourse kills me. I've already picked up the next two books in the series.

Janice Hopper

The first book by Craig Johnson I read was a later one in the series (The Dark Horse). I really enjoyed that one, and wanted to come back to the first part of the series. 

This is the first one. I liked it, though to my mind there's a little too much Magical Indian stuff going on. But the characters are mostly pretty interesting and the story's fine. 

Took me a little longer to get through this one than the last, and I'm not sure I'll read more. But I'll say this: Craig Johnson can really nail an ending. Kinda makes the whole book seem better.

I discovered this series by Craig Johnson through the television program 'Longmire' which I love. However as good as the TV program is (and it is excellent), the book blew me away. Craig Johnson has created a protagonist in Walt Longmire that is flawed and wonderful. Highly, highly recommended.
