As usual got thanks to NetGalley Apparently this book has a non direct prequel which it explains why I felt like I was missing something out of it, like when you go out with a couple and are talking about things that you understand but the context is something you cannot share, because you are not part of the couple, so that's how I felt mainly with it. That being said is a really good book, despise that I couldn't immerse myself totally on the story I really enjoyed it, the author is brilliant and has a pen that many people would and rightly so, envy. He is a really talented author that at least to me left me thinking and evaluating political and philosophical ideas. I have a few friends that love this kind of readings and definitely I will force them this book because is really good. I highly recommend this book for those who are more into "adult" stories.

viet thanh nguyen is really fucking smart. i think i liked the sympathizer more, but i liked how more explicitly political and philosophical this one was. 

this book sometimes feels like it's was just begging to be put on a syllabus for asian american lit, which makes sense because nguyen studied english literature and specializes in that, so it helped when reading this to know about the theorists he mentions about understanding asian diaspora/colonization/imperialism/capitalism. if i didn't have that knowledge, i feel like this book would be hard to understand, but maybe i'm being elitist (?)

Gripping story and thoughtful final message. Not quite as seamless or impactful as The Sympathizer, especially in the second half, but it wrapped up nicely in the end. At times the wordplay and allusions felt like low-hanging fruit.

A brilliant sequel to The Sympathizer. I was captivated from page 1 and was so impressed by how Nguyen communicates the shattered mind of “the man with two minds.” The inclusion of the historical image and event was a fascinating inclusion.
