It took me less than a millisecond to request a copy of this book after I realised what it was. Witchcraft?? Sign me the fuck up. And it was everything I could have hoped for. Any modern witch, baby witch, or wannabe witch should have it, honestly. It's got absolutely everything you could ever possibly need. Now, I'm not saying it goes 12 feet under in detail for every single subject, because there's not enough string on the planet to bind that book together. Instead it basically gives you a step by step guide into the world of modern witchcraft and how to incorporate it into your life. The author herself is warmly comforting in her teaching and clearly believes wholeheartedly in the craft, but still is grounded in the modern world of sciences and working towards your goals. She even has a degree in environmental science, so you know she's not completely nuts. For her, first and foremost, witchcraft is a choice made only by you, and in order to become a witch you simply have to decide to be one. I love how she talks about the presence of witchcraft in other religions, and how the two concepts are not entirely mutually exclusive - you can still be religious and a witch, or one, or the other (religions themselves may not think this, but that's from their perspective). I also love how her basis for witchcraft is always based on intent, never on skill.

Like most subjects, there is just so much I don't know about witchcraft but learned from this book, starting with the many different types of witches one can be. Also, that you can be a witch who is Wiccan, but also a witch that is not! Ultimately, the author emphasises throughout the book that witchcraft, as a whole, is customizeable to each an every witch. It's also super accessible to anyone who may have an interest. Past the concept that you simply have to declare yourself a witch to be one, you can adapt and exchange nearly everything in witchcraft if you don't have the recommended supplies or ingredients readily available. And even if you can't include any physical tools and equipment, there are still ways to participate!! Like dream interpretation! And palmistry!! There's so so much to practise that I would be surprised if there was a single person that did it all. Not only is witchcraft considerate to all practitioners, but all living creatures as well. The author is always emphasising that witchcraft is never meant to hurt anyone or anything. All your actions should be considerate whether it's human, animal, or plant (you're not even supposed to banish a ghost if a bad one shows up in a seance - just get out of there, fast). 

I've always had a passing interest in witchcraft in my life, starting with the concept of witches in Harry Potter (although vastly different). I remember checking out books on it in the library and coming home with giant spellbooks that I would spend ages flipping through. I thought I was doing it casually for personal research, but then on the day I meant to audition for my local theatre group, I broke a mirror and found myself frantically looking for a spell that would reverse any bad luck I generated. Last year I even visited Salem to immerse myself in all the history there and ended up learning so much more than I anticipated about modern witches. Now after reading this book, I am even more fascinated in a world that is still considered to be bad juju. Everything about it is fascinating to me, nothing less than the fact that anyone can do it if they want to bring witchcraft into their lives. All you need is just to focus your intentions and let your curiosity lead the way. Honestly, this book should be far longer, but I still appreciate it immensely for all that it does.
