Yes, it's written very dreamy and poetically. Honestly, that's what I love about it so much!

I was excited that we followed Summer in this book instead of River because god I hated River so much in book one. The fact that we followed Summer meant we got more of an insight into the Graces family and they are so interesting. I do feel like we got more of clear dight into the magic and how it works. The plot is a bit ridiculous and very, very predictable. Some things just happened WAY too quicklyin my opinion and the characters did feel a bit dumb. It took them so long to figure out what was right in front of them. It was a pretty satisfying end to the duology though.

A great sequel to a great first book. I love it and got me into the spooky season a bit early, but I did love the book. I wish that she would write more about the characters and world.

The Curses is set in the perspective of Summer Grace, youngest of the Grace brood and ex best friend of River Page -- our narrator in the first book. I've had The Curses on my TBR for about five months now, basically since its release date. I had it preordered the minute I finished The Graces because I knew I needed more. I needed more magic. More answers. More of The Graces. I even found myself needing more of River. 




  What did I like? (NOTE: May contain spoilers.)




 
   I loved the switched POV. I felt so much closer to The Graces while reading from Summers point of view.  
   Magic flows through the pages of this book. While there was no shortage of magic in The Graces. It felt more defined and prominent in The Curses. 
   Minor characters turned into major, and important characters. (Ie. Marcus -- I have so much love for this boy. Please give him a medal or something!) 
   Dark, deep, family secrets being revealed.  
   Pinky and the Brain name drop! One of my favourite childhood shows. 
   The plot twists, oh my stars the PLOT TWISTS! 
   I loved that Laure had the ability to make us feel how a character was feeling. The entire vibe and atmosphere of this book was magic all in itself.  
   This book brought out a lot of thought provoking realisrealizationsations for me; to seize the day and to stop living just to die. To live for me. For my loved ones. To keep believing in magic because magic is everything, and to never apologize for being who I am. 
 



What didn't I like? (NOTE: May contain spoilers.)

 
   I think The Graces were too forgiving. Despite River not being able to properly control her power, she still killed Wolf. That wound and that pain, for me anyways, would be hard to forgive.

Overall, this was an amazingly dark and twisty read full of dark secrets that slowly become exposed, revenge, unrequited love, forgiveness, redemption, acceptance, change, taking control, loss, mourning, and of course, magic. I am so sad for this series to be over but I am so glad I was sucked into this amazing world. Laure did such a wonderful job with this series, with these characters, with the secrets and lies, twists and turns. I ate up every page like it was my last meal. 


There was so much to love about this book and I don't want to risk giving anything away. So I'll leave you with one final thought, if you haven't read The Graces duology yet, I implore you all to pick up this wickedly delicious series! It is without a doubt one of my favourite reads of the year.
