There's something so scattered and unsatisfying about this book - it reads like the poorly articulated wet dream of a deluded and emotionally repressed narcissist with occasional moments of touching lucidity. Bunny Munro has no redeeming qualities and is wholly unlikeable as a main character. I think his sexual desires are meant to be perverse but he's actually very unimaginative; it's blatantly provocative, but only because the words 'fuck' and 'vagina' appear on every page. That being said, I like books where you know from the very beginning that the main character is going to die. It seems that much of living is about learning how to die. Instead of reading this book, perhaps you could turn on the news, listen to some Kylie Minogue, and click on the sidebar banners advertising hot singles in your area. Maybe you could moisturise your hands and think about why men are so afraid of taking responsibility, competing with their children for love, and receiving anal sex. I love Nick Cave as a musician but reading this makes him a bit harder to love because it's difficult to deny how fucked and banal he is when it's realised in writing. This entire book was a "forlorn wank" and he probably would've had to edit it more ruthlessly if he wasn't already an established artist who could get published just by ejaculating, blindfolded, onto a typewriter.
