A poisonously delicious weird novel, seemingly a cross between cook book and autobiography. The food stuff is insanely good, with obsessive scholarship, over-the-top foodism, and lush meals. The character is a decadent aesthete, something like a Huysmans character read through Nabokov.

_Debt_ is also a crime story, as a string of lethal accidents are revealed and quietly explained.

Perhaps best read in small tastes, even single paragraphs at a time.
