The Deception

Nikki Sloane2019
I've been through hell to get to this place. To wear the perfect white dress and stand beside Royce Hale, the liar I tried desperately not to fall in love with and failed. Or maybe I'm still trapped in hell because the devil is here too. He lurks at my side, plotting terrible ways to make me his. It's win at all costs in this family, and I know now just how far the Hales will go to get what they want. But you can't survive in a house full of lies without learning the art of deception, and once I become a Hale, I'll show them exactly what I've mastered.

I'm upset. Beyond upset. I expected more from this. Either for Marist and Macalister to end up together or for Marist to come full on top, not with Royce by her side. Yes, it's petty to rate this book so low because of that, but I honestly hate Royce for everything he put Marist through right from the start.

This gets 4.25 ⭐️ Still thoroughly enjoyed it, but I don’t know if the ending is something I would have picked out. I was wholeheartedly convinced that Nikki Sloane was going to pull a 180 and end it with Macalister and I feel like maybe I would have enjoyed that as much as her staying with Royce. Or maybe it’s just how it played out. I was honestly doubting Royce’s intentions the entire series 💀 I couldn’t tell when that bitch was being genuine because I just always thought the other shoe was going to drop LMAO. Royce and Marist was very sweet though, and Macalister and Marist just gave me all of the sexual tension. I mean, every single scene with them in each book?! I hate to say it but i swooned HEAVILY. Had the ending been different or more… fitting? Maybe I would have given it 5. Idk, it’s the ending that got me here.

Hmm now I can’t say I’m 100% pleased with how this trilogy ended but I get the appeal because it’s leading into another book. I feel like there was a lot of fluff in this one and the cat & mouse game between Marist & Macalister was played out too much it was beginning to get old. I also was upset with some of her decisions that were made. I think they deserved better. However I can appreciate the plot that we got in this book. Overall I loved the story.

This series was everything I never realised I needed. The drama and over the top plot twists were perfect. Loved it.

This series has been a WILD trip and I enjoyed every bit of it. Do I wish Macalister had been endgame? ....yes. But at least he has his own book so I can’t complain too much. I can’t wait to see how Nikki Sloane redeems his character!
