It seems to me that the universe holds far too many secrets to trade in absolutes, and anyone who tries runs the risk of being found out a fool. I am many things, but I like to think that a fool is not one of them

           I am literally in a state of mourning right now... I can't believe, and I don't want to believe, that this series is over. For the past 7 years I have read and treasured the world Derek Landy had created. From day one. I was in love with the character of Skulduggery Pleasant (still am), I aspired to be like Valkyrie. And now the stories over. 

At first I didn't want to read this book because I didn't want the series to end. I'm glad I read it because this story needed to end and I love the way Derek ended it. 

When I thought Skulduggery had died, I admit, I cried. And when I found out the he didn't and he had pushed Ravel into the Accelerator instead I cried again, but this time in relief. That is the Skulduggery I know and love. The sarcastic, cocky, irritating, quick-witted yet lovable character that I grew up with. 

It says in the back of the book that Derek Landy is releasing a new book next year (a completely new series I think). I can assure you I will be one of the first to buy it.

The 5 star rating isn't just for this book. It's for the whole series. My life will be a little bit empty without Valkyrie and Skulduggery. But I'll manage.

My daughter and I have read the entire Skulduggery Pleasant series together. It's something we share, which nobody else in the family likes.

Dying of the Light is the final book in the series, a satisfying tying up of many plot lines.

If you haven't read the series, please don't start here.

If you have... then know that Dying offers nearly every character you've seen before, mostly engaged in brutal combat. This novel is probably more fighting-filled then any other. You'll also get more banter between Skulduggery and Valkyrie, nice scenes with our heroine's family, and the fun idea of China Sorrows as Grand Mage.

You will also see a lot of deaths, including for some fine characters. And the finale, well, is cosmic and sweet.
