A really fun end to the series. I highly enjoyed this and it was a starting wrap up. Scalzi did a great job with this world and it makes me happy to read more of his stuff

This was a bit better than the preceding Old Man's War book (The Human Division). There's too much "republic trade routes" kind of talk in the latter two novellas. I thoroughly enjoyed "The Life of the Mind", and "The Hollow Union" has its pleasures, specifically details about all of those alien races in the Conclave. Of course, the main problem with a book like this is that you can hardly read it without reading the preceding five books first -- this book has the feel of a Season 6 to it. Now that I think about it, "The Life of the Mind" is the kind of "episode" that could exist on a list of top reruns.

I seem to have missed The Human Division, so not sure how this rating might be different if I had. Enjoyed some of this book, other parts dragged a bit.

Really enjoyed the bits with Lieutenant Heather Lee.
