well-written and well-paced. The author does a good job at articulating the character’s feelings and innermost thoughts by showing instead of just saying. In doing so, I was able to connect with Ava’s feelings of emotional abandonment from her parents as well as Matthew's growing love for Ava. Ava’s yearning for her parents' affection made me tear up especially when she mentioned the time when her parents only took her sister's picture for the first day of school and just forgot/dismissed Ava. This passage beautifully describes what Ava felt after finally getting positive affirmation from her parents after years of neglect "Their words were like pouring a honey-sweetened vinegar over a dried-out sponge that had been left in the sun too long. My soul was parched for words like that from them, a husk I'd ignored for years out of necessity." Ava and Matthew's relationship taught that people can unintentionally affect their relationships with their own traumas. In Ava's case, it was her emotional detachment and avoidance that she developed from childhood that was hindering the relationship. In Mattew's case, it was trust issues from past relationships. It was nice that the couple identified and communicated the root of their problems, which is also both their faults (and the blame was not given to one person) Who says you can't learn anything from romance books - "I thought of what I’d carried around, what I’d unknowingly brought from my relationship with my family into my relationship with Matthew."

Ava & Matthew’s story was a curveball considering the history. 🫣 I wish we could have had another chapter of the siblings closure with each other and talking about the situation. I am excited to read Logan’s story next, mans deserves happiness.
