The Executioner

Chris Carter2010
Inside a Los Angeles church, on the altar steps, lies the blood-soaked, decapitated body of a priest. Carefully positioned, legs stretched out, arms crossed over the chest, the most horrifying thing of all is that the priest's head has been replaced by that of a dog.

The second book from the Robert Hunter series and the second one from this author that I read. I really liked the first one even do I did figured out who was the murder but this one it took me by surprise. It was well written, the charcaters were great and the story hoocked me.

Robert Hunter is back in this chilling novel, people are being murdered by what they fear the most. There is no doubt that Chris Carter has a wild imagination, he is able to suck you into the story from the very first page and doesn’t let you go until you have finished the last page. His books are not for the faint hearted people, Chris Carter has a way with making you feel connected to the characters, making you feel like you you know them personally. And can we take a second to talk about Hunters relationship with his partner Carlos Garcia. With the amount of crime fiction I’ve read Hunter and Garcia are by far the best cop duo. I am looking forward to reading his next book.

⭐ 5 Stars ⭐ Another great book from Chris Carter, I loved it! I was hooked right from the first chapter and couldn’t put it down. The chapters were really short, making it easy to read and seem relatively fast-paced even though it was a longer book. I know some people are not fans of 3-or-so page chapters, but the plot is great if you can look past this aspect. It does give the book a little less of a continuous flow, however, I liked the style.   The story of this book was gripping as well as the extra sub-plot that was also just as interesting. Although, it could have done without the paranormal feature. The book/plot was good enough on its own without including it, but it did add a bit of entertainment. The author added a few slight hints throughout the book like the first so you could guess who the killer was, which I like in these types of books. I’m glad it follows the same detectives as you get to know them and see them develop through the series. Loved the partnership between Hunter and Garcia that continues into this book, they work very well together. One thing I wasn’t sure about was the fact Hunter seemed to be able to get out of any situation. I don’t see that happening in real life, but it’s just fiction, so I can let it slide as it wasn’t a significant factor.   Like the first book, the content is quite graphic, but it’s a great book besides the gore.

A much stronger seconf book where carter has learned an began to hone his craft. I really like the MO of the killer in this one and I was guessing all the way through.

“Sometimes, when I see a homeless person sitting in a corner, cold and hungry, I wonder how far back I’d have to trace that person’s life to find the exact moment in time that broke him.’ Hunter watched an old man cross the street below. ‘It could be the moment he lost his job, or his wife, or his kid. It could be anything. But there’s always something, captain. The proverbial “last straw”. Everyone has a breaking point.”
