Retells in graphic novel format the first Outlander novel from Jamie Fraser's point of view, revealing events never seen in the original story.

2.5 stars rounded up to 3. Unlike Outlander, The Exile is pretty forgettable. For me, it didn't add much to the original story. 

Almost every male character looks the same; I had trouble distinguishing especially between Murtagh and Kenneth and Dougal. Hardly any of the characters, male or female, match Diana Gabaldon's original descriptions. Aside from Jamie and Claire (minus how ~well endowed~ Claire was), Geillis didn't live up to her description, nor did Murtagh. Where was Geillis' blonde hair and green eyes? She looked a lot like Claire, actually. And I thought Murtagh was supposed to be a short, wiry man. Not so here. 

This is hardly Jamie's side of the story. It's more like Murtagh's, so it's kind of misleading. And aside from a few of the characters' private thoughts, there's nothing new to add to original story from Claire's POV. To me this actually weakens Claire's POV, as it just makes her out to be a bimbo. Sorry. 

I did like the rest of the imagery, if not how some of the characters were depicted. This also really, really condenses the original plot. It's still a decent story if you haven't read the original Outlander novel that this is based on, but I just got my hopes up and was disappointed.

This was pretty terrible. The artwork was not to my taste (hellllooooo busty Claire) and the dialog nothing compared to the books. I also stopped because there seemed to be spoilers for books I haven't read yet (I'm only through Dragonfly in Amber). Besides a nice piece of Jamie's bum this is entirely passable.

As much as I love Outlander, this graphic novel just wasn’t for me. I didn’t find that it really expanded much on the original storyline at all, and, in all honesty, the art style was a bit disconcerting. The plot was so condensed that it felt like things were skipping around incoherently at times. I will love the original books by Diana Gabaldon for all of my days, but this installment is one I could do without...
