I am ashamed to admit that I am a new reader of Oliver Jeffers. He has always intrigued me when I'm tidying the picture book section of my shop but I was yet to pick one up. HarperCollins were kind enough to send me The Fate of Fausto and since then I've wanted to read EVERY SINGLE ONE. The Fate of Fausto reads as a modern fable, warning people what will happen if you are hubristic. It is a powerful tale both for children and adults to enjoy and is a beautiful addition to anyone's shelf. I highly recommend buying this, whether to read with your child or for a little gift to yourself. It has wit, beautiful design (seriously, his artwork is stunning), and an important message. I highly recommend this!
I haven't been this confused after reading a picturebook. Mixed feelings. But I would say it's poignant and reads more like a fable.
