I read this Novella after I read The Murder Complex.

The Fear Trials, it is set two year before The Murder Complex, you could read it before or after the series.

In this novella, you get to see a closer look at how a Meadows dad trains them. Koi fails his placement test, so now it's up to Meadow to feed her family, in two years she will be the one her family relays on, her sister, her brother. He stabs her in the shoulder, I actually screamed because he freaking stabbed his daughter in the shoulder. Bloody Hell! I understand he wants to train her for everything, but this is brutal! Her brother, Koi, breaks her foot, the nanites luckily heal it quickly, but still! This is some brutal training. In the end, all the training comes to use when she kills someone who wanted Peri, what a psychopathic world this is. I LOVE IT!

Lindsay Cummings has created a brutal bloody and horrific world, but it makes you realize how damn lucky you are, as well! At least we have kind people who will give food and water and even shelter to those in need. Plus this is a very entertaining read, I wouldn't suggest it if you don't like murder…

Meadow will fight and kill whoever to keep her sister, Peri, safe. That's what gives her the energy. Though, she does strive from the adrenaline of danger.

I did enjoy this novel and I recommend to red the murder complex before this. The world setting can be not clear enough yet but you get to know more about it in the murder complex. 
The characters have in the different part of the novel a different feeling than in the murder complex. Not in a good way tough. I toughed at the start pf the novel Meadow was annoying and weak but in the murder complex she was my fave. I understood why her dad was so strict in TMC. I believed that it was because Meadow's mom died and he didn't want to loose another part of the family while in this novel (where the mom still lives) her dad seems even more strict. Don't let me even get started about the brother and Peri didn't feel like she belonged in the story for everything but the last few chapters. What in TMC wasn't the case. 
Like I said I enjoyed the story but I think I wouldn't have liked it as much if I hadn't read TMC.

If you didn't like this but haven't read the murder complex I recommend to read TMC because it's way better.
If you have read TMC don't let the negative reviews hold you and read this thing.
If you haven't read both you can choose but definitely NOT skip this novel because it's a great background story but you don't need to read it before TMC or don't get influenced by this novel because TMC is way better.

Love Lindsay's writing tough.
