Minor spoilers included: I have to preface this by saying that this isn't normally the genre of book I read. However, at someone else's suggestion, I picked it up. 

The first 50 pages were very slow and a bit dull. I enjoyed the historical elements, but it was difficult to get invested in the story at first. 

After that, the story picked up and I began to empathize with the main character and care about his cause. 

The bulk of the book was actually quite entertaining and suspenseful, and I very much enjoyed the details of the lifestyle and atmosphere of pre-war Europe. 

However, the end felt slightly rushed for being, what I thought, was the most important and thrilling part. I understand that in the end we are supposed to feel a bit happy, yet knowing it won't last, but it still felt slightly unfinished.
