Often they came to her in dreams, nightmare visions that dissipated upon waking, leaving only the lingering sense of dread hanging over her like a black cloud. They spoke to her faintly in a language she didn’t understand, the words giving her migraines that felt like dead fingers rooting around in her brain.

Sometimes they simply stood watch, like sentinels. Other times they beckoned to her, a siren call from the depths of insanity.

It was the hellish sound of the forsaken, a high, gut-wrenching wail that split the darkness like a hatchet to the face.

The prologue draws you in to the horror elements and then you’re immediately thrust into a party scene. That is to say, the prologue /keeps/ you wanting to know what will happen to the party’s characters. Too many TW’s to list. The details of the book were so grotesque and fantastic it was truly horrifying.
