So heartwarming and adorable! This YA queer graphic novel will make you fall in love with the art style and Morgan and Keltie’s story. There’s just so much this book offers and discusses important themes surrounding queer teenagers through picture-perfect storytelling. I absolutely love it.

I loved this so much! So emotional, I felt so involved and cared so much for the main characters. I will be reading this again when I want a good cry and an emotional rollercoaster 🎢 I didn't think I would like graphic novels but this was mind-blowing and so wholesome omg ❤️

This is the best graphic novel I have ever read. I cried.

The Girl from the Sea is a sapphic coming of age novel that follows Morgan, whose parents just got divorced, and she's struggling through her teenage life, desperate for an escape. One night, Morgan slips on some rocks and is saved from drowning by a selkie, a shape-shifting sea-folk named Keltie. Morgan believes Kelite is a dream and kisses her, which gives Keltie the ability to walk on land. 

It explores the nuances of complex family dynamics, environmental activism, coming out, finding love, and giving it up for something bigger. Although the plot is straightforward and doesn't dive super deep into the complexities of being gay, I think this hit all the right points, given it is a YA graphic novel that's meant to be short and sweet.

I adore this graphic novel, and it is so precious. If you read one graphic novel this year, this should be it 100%. IT'S SO CUTE!!!

           Morgan has a big secret, which makes her a bit of a control freak: all aspects of her life are filed into separate containers that don't mix. Her familyinine box, her social life in another, and her love preferences in yet another one. When Keltie, a free-spirited selkie, saved her from drowning, the both of them fall into a sweet summer romance, that Morgan tries to keep hidden. But sometimes plans must change to make life worth living in the now. The romance between the girls is so sweet and touching it will melt your heart, even when life gets in the way and separates our two lovers in the end. To be reunited? Maybe.

this book was just such a cute fast listen🥰 it didn’t have much of a backstory but if you’re in a reading slump this is an amazing fast paced story! also cute for bedtimes. can’t wait to one day read the printed book!

This book was absolutely delightful and I loved it and I cried at it. I think a lot of people who are queer go through something similar in their lives. While this character does have supportive loved ones, not everyone has that reaction from people they trust. This is a lovely queer coming of age graphic novel and it is so important to tell more stories like this. I also love the underlying message of encouraging people to live their truth now, not in a hypothetical future - also a very important message.

I really love the art within this book. The style is spectacular and beautiful. I love the inclusion within this as well. I wasn't the happiest with the way that the story ended and how fast it progressed. I did love the little surprise at the end. I would read again, but it isn't jumping off of my shelf.

           This book was incredibly hyped up, so I had relatively high expectations going in. I absolutely loved the integration of the legend of the Selkie, and I also appreciated how even though this story is definitely a love story, there were plenty of other themes and plots happening at the same time. My only problem with this book was more of a personal one - call me cynical, but I’m liking secret/hidden relationship tropes less and less, especially because I did not understand nor agree with Morgan’s reasons for withdrawing from everyone around her.
