The Golden Compass is plagued with bad adaptations. Well, I guess just the movie and this graphic novel, but those are bad enough to be considered a plague. The graphic novel tries to keep to the original story, but blasts through the narrative incredibly quickly. There's no sense of time or development of the stakes because things just keep happening, leaving readers little time to settle into the feelings of each place that Lyra has visited. Plus the art is... not the best. The characters often off-model, not very expressive, and it's not a very detailed look at the world. All in all, read the book or listen to the audio version. This one is a skip :l

I thought this was a cute graphic novel interpretation of (part of) the first Dark Materials book. It did seem really short, which is why I took off a star. Even though it is just part of the book, it felt like it took out more than was necessary. It took me like 20 minutes to read it. I hope they release a bigger volume with all the parts of the story, that would be more enjoyable to read.
