Well well *crackes knuckles* y'all are in for a rant treat

So here's the thing :
My hormones were at it again and i just NEEDED my dose and fair share of romance, and i've seen this book everywhere since it has been released so i was kinda *low-key* hyped about it,,,, BUT THEN i actually started reading it and boi did i C R I N G E 

This book started off with Delilah or Lilah or DJ -or whatever the hell you want to call her- 's day being the absolute WORST and when she thought it couldn't get worstest it actually did, and that was when her last ex-boyfriend showed up 
And uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh THAT DUDE IS THE MOST ASSHOLIC DOUCHE EVER
why, you ask? Here's why :

SPOILERSSSS

 So there's a scene at the beginning where they get kinda stuck in a wine cellar or something and Lilah has a phobia so she starts panicking and what does our PRINCE CHARMING do to "calm her down" ?? HE FUCKING GRABS HER FACE AND KISSES HER like the fuck does this man thinks he's doing???? (And she made it clear beforehand that she wants nothing to do with him except being friends bc he abounded her back in high school??) SO YOU CAN I MAGINE HOW FUCKING PISSED I WAS 

AND 

 There's a scene where they get pulled over, and Lilah carries on a conversation with the cop, so the male shit in ETHHH*inserts Trump thh meme*an and he realises that she HAD a thing with him and he gets mad?????? like bitch the fuck you expect after breaking up with your lifetime gf over the phone and breaking all the contact ?? Sit and mope about you??? UGH IM MAD 
And there's even a line where he says that he doesnt like that she were happy after he left her LMFAO BITCH WHAT

Also, if there's ONE pet name i hate it would be *cringes as she types* "bAbY" and Ethan dude says it like 1258665847 time in this book. (here it's a me-not-you kind of thing)


And i could go on with how assholic this love interest was but i want to erase all that shit from my brain so. 

And the one star rating wasn't just because of him but also because of the plot, the characters, and JUST THE WHOLE THING. The characters felt just SO flat and shallow and empty?? (can i even say that?) and the romance WAS JUST THE WORST THING but i survived it,,,, i don't think you could though.

I was busy for the past few days, so it takes days for me to finish this book. 

Well, I have always a soft spot for Sport Romance and it has become my one favorite romance—any sport romance but when it comes to my favorite Authors I definitely know that this book is going to be amazing. I’ve read so many books by Helena Hunting and not once has let me down and including this one. 

I love the Female Characters in this book. I love the way she stand on her own feet and wanted space so she can put herself first. And ofcs, the hero is too cute because he’s so clingy asf! 🤤🥰 I love that man so much..

I actually enjoyed this more than I thought I would. I’ve felt in the past that Helena has used too much humour in her books, sometimes shelving the story for funnies. This isn’t the case here. The balance she has achieved is pretty awesome.
The story here is more complex and dramatic than anything I’ve read from her before and I love it.
Ethan is so cute, as well as a little annoying, like a Naughty pet you can’t help but love.
Lilah is strong, but also frustrating when it comes to Ethan.
Again, this book has more drama than I was expecting but I thought it was great, and I think you will too!

I really wasted my time with this one... by the time I realised the characters had shown no signs of improving past being bland and boring, and it wasn't going to get better I couldn't bring myself to DNF it. By the end, it became the story not of how Ethan and Delilah fell back in love, but of my growing hatred for them. Delilah is a pushover, and the bare attempts the author made in showing her working to stand up for herself were incredibly minute and lasted like a chapter? Despite not be attached to Delilah at all, I somehow have managed to form a very strong hatred of Ethan. He was consistently selfish, ignorant to her wants and needs and placed himself first consistently. The ending in no way justified them being together, as throughout the entire book they seemed to be in a unhealthy relationship built on nostalgia, sex and a lack of communication. UGH

           The cute cover fooled me >:( I thought it was like 25% angst and 75% fluff/neutral. But I was wrong. I was blindsided but s'okay.

I love the development between the two characters. How the way they started their relationship again was similar but also different than the last time. I'm such a fan of the second-chance romance trope and this book is obviously that trope done well. <3

After writing my review, I realized this is a five star book for me. I was originally going to give it four stars. It deserves more. I definitely like this one better than Meet Cute! I love all of the characters in this book, especially Lilah and Ethan. I love that they found their way back to each other.

I really want more of this story! I’m really hoping that Lilah’s sister gets her own story!

Lilah is having a very bad day. She left her coffee on the roof of her car, got caught in a rain storm in her nurse scrubs, was served her final divorce papers, was late to work, and then found out the man she considers a father is a patient at her hospital, admitted for having a debilitating stroke. Oh, and her first love Ethan is back in town for the emergency. Great.

Eight years ago, Ethan dumped Lilah unceremoniously over the phone, abruptly ending their long relationship that started in high school. Ethan, as convinced by his father, decided if he wanted to really pursue his hockey career and not also ruining Lilah's dreams, he needed to set her free.

But maybe he should of explained that better.

Now Ethan's back, his hockey career is not going so well, and he wants Lilah back. Reluctant to forgive, but still hopelessly in love with Ethan, Lilah lets him back into her heart.

Their all consuming romance seems to be a "lucky charm" for Ethan but a huge detriment to Lilah's own plans of becoming a Nurse Practitioner. As her studies begin to take a side-line to Ethan's need for her time, Lilah has to decide who she is and what she wants.

A lovely little romance of second-chances and important decisions. I liked that Ethan and Lilah's relationship struggles were based off of real problems, not lying or cheating.

Lilah's dreams were shattered 8 years ago when Ethan left to play hockey in LA and broke up with her over the phone after years of friendship and love. Now Lilah has taken the next step in her career just as Ethan decides to make another play for her affections. Even if she forgives Ethan, what happens when his career takes another turn?

The Good Luck Charm is a very light read, seemingly made longer with the addition of some dramatic events in both Ethan's and Lilah's lives. It is difficult to like either of the main characters, Lilah forgives and forgets the devastation that she experienced much too easily. Then once Ethan and Lilah are back together, she enables his selfish domination of her time to the point that she jeopardizes her own career goals. The pacing of the story is off since most of the drama and main events happen in the last few chapters of the book. Overall, The Good Luck Charm is a disappointment.

Is it ok if I start this review off by shaming myself? I'm going to. I read The Good Luck Charm way back in June, when I was devouring all the hockey romance in light of the Caps winning the Stanley Cup. I fell totally in love with it. It made me so ridiculously happy, I posted about it a ton on Instagram. But you know what I didn't do? Review it. So, here we are three months since I read it and I'm FINALLY going to write a review. I'm ashamed.

Second chance romance is my jam and, well, when you mix that with a bit of sports romance I'm one deliriously happy reader. I cheesy grinned and swooned my way through The Good Luck Charm. Sometimes second chance romances can be a little heavy as the couple works through what separated them in the first place. That wasn't the case with Lilah and Ethan. Things just clicked for them. There was very little time and attention paid to drama in this book. Instead, it was fun, swoony and sexy. They were clearly meant to be and it was obvious in just about every scene.

I loved the characters, the romance and the setting. As a superstitious sports fan myself, I enjoyed reading about it from Ethan's side and seeing how it affected Lilah. Since I was lucky to read this one prior to publication AND receive a finished copy from the publisher, I snagged the audiobook on release day. The Good Luck Charm is one I'll reread for a long time to come. I'm already looking forward to reading it again.

This book combined two of my favorite types of romance: sports and second chance. So, unsurprisingly, I really enjoyed this one. This was my second Hunting book. I wasn't the biggest fan of Meet Cute, but I'm so glad I decided to give her a second shot because I adored Ethan and Lilah's story. 

Ethan and Lilah have their ups and downs, but this story doesn't go overboard with conflict and drama. In fact, the conflict felt very appropriate and purposeful. I was so proud of Lilah for putting herself first and not letting Ethan's needs eclipse her own. I loved watching these two grow back together as Lilah opened her heart back up and let herself trust Ethan again. 

Overall, this was a quick read, lots of fun, and super sexy. I'll definitely be reading more Helena Hunting now!
