So, Better Nate Than Ever and its sequel are two of my favorite books. This book just lived up to my expectations, because it was good, but it wasn't special good - this book is quite typical queer YA.

Quinn was a very real and honest character. I liked that this wasn't a coming out story and that everyone sort of knew. His expression of grief is one that isn't portrayed too often in YA; usually we get grief that lasts for years and years (which happens, but in YA, it seems to be the only type of grief). I read Federle's acknowledgements, and I'm glad he decided to go with this story, because it fit Quinn.

The ending was also refreshing. (view spoiler)[Quinn doesn't get the boy, he doesn't get everything resolved and it's implied that he'll never see Amir again. I liked that Amir's dream wasn't feasible, because as sad as it is, things like that happen. Case in point: I'd love to be in theatre, but I'm not a good singer or dancer and I'm far too quiet and nervous to be an actor. I do think that some things were wrapped up too hastily and a lot of the plot could have been solved by, like, communication. People telling Quinn things earlier. (hide spoiler)]

I thought this was a very fun book to read. It was a quick read and I wish that it was longer. It dealt with some serious issues, but it was still really funny. Great book.

3.5? Its odd because I enjoyed it despite how often my eyes were rolling. I definitely wouldn't recommend it to anyone or read it again though. And fuck I hate Quinn

From the award-winning author of Five, Six, Seven, Nate! and Better Nate Than Ever comes “a Holden Caulfield for a new generation” (Kirkus Reviews, starred review). Quinn Roberts is a sixteen-year-old smart aleck and Hollywood hopeful whose only worry used to be writing convincing dialogue for the movies he made with his sister Annabeth. Of course, that was all before—before Quinn stopped going to school, before his mom started sleeping on the sofa…and before the car accident that changed everything. Enter: Geoff, Quinn’s best friend who insists it’s time that Quinn came out—at least from hibernation. One haircut later, Geoff drags Quinn to his first college party, where instead of nursing his pain, he meets a guy—okay, a hot guy—and falls, hard. What follows is an upside-down week in which Quinn begins imagining his future as a screenplay that might actually have a happily-ever-after ending—if, that is, he can finally step back into the starring role of his own life story.

From the award-winning and New York Times bestselling author of Five, Six, Seven, Nate! and Better Nate Than Ever comes a laugh-out-loud sad YA debut that's a wry and winning testament to the power of old movies and new memories-one unscripted moment at a time.
