I have heard of this book for a while, so I decided to hunt it up. Turns out I could borrow it for free on my kindle, and so I did. 
I finished it in a day. 

It is a masterpiece.

I don't consider myself a reading snob, but I just could not get through this (or any other Green Ember) book. The prose is, at times painfully, awkward and clunky. I ended up reading the synopsis of each novel. It's a shame—the storyline seems like something I would have loved. In my non-professional opinion, this entire series really suffered from not having an editor involved.

Ah, this was so fabulous! It was heart-warming and adventurous at the same time. There were many sweet moments and many moments that keep you on the edge of your seat. Smith writes in a way that keeps you turning the page and keeps you wondering what's going to happen next. I will admit that some parts were a little slow, but for the most part, the pacing was pretty fast. I do wish that there was more action, but that's why appreciated the battle at the end. It was extremely descriptive, and I could feel my pupils getting bigger haha!

I loved the characters. Honestly, Picket was pretty annoying to me for the first half of the book because of his stubbornness. However, what I loved was how it helped to develop his character, causing him to mature more later on. And Heather has such a sweet demeanor that makes her extremely loveable. She reminds me of a stuffed animal that you'd want to always just hug and never want to let it go. 

Overall, this book was captivating and the cliff-hanger makes me want to read the next book! If you like The Wingfeather Saga or Redwall, you'd love the Green Ember!

Excellent book to read aloud. My kids and I enjoyed this adventure of rabbits with swords. It's an epic tale that will interest kids and adults alike. My 5 year-old lost interest at times, but my 7 year-old sat riveted the whole time. There is a prequel that is already out and a sequel that is in the works.

Heather and Picket see their world crumble when the wolves attack. They have no other choice than follow the strangers who fight at their side and leave what was familiar behind. The slow pace of the book makes us feel the hardship of the path ahead. It makes sure that every character acts and earns their rightful and well deserved end. There are is easy and fast path to become a hero.

Treason, loss, bitterness, learning, acceptance, knowledge, passion... to restore the rightful heir. 

What drove me to this book was the amazing cover. The illustrator made a great job with these series. Reminded me my favorite books by Brian Jacques.

I read this book with my 7 year old son. He found the beginning part a little scary. We then found the middle of the book quite slow going as we learn about the world of Natalia. And not much happened. But my son loved the battles at the end of the book.
