A very decent story with some problems. If you don't mind reading about young, white, twentysomething hipsters with sexual hangups who manage to travel to Paris and NYC without ever working, then you won't mind this novel. I have a tolerance for such stories, but I was left hoping for a little more than a story of two idiots who fall in love in a day and then break up the next week. It was like watching a horror movie in the fact that the characters continually make the dumbest, most destructive decisions time after time. Apart from those problems, the writing flows wonderfully, and the dialogue is the best part. Hawke really nails that conversational feel that likely rubbed off from working with Linklater on Before Sunrise. A mixed bag of a book, but I feel its a good starting point for a first-time author.
