The voice cackled maliciously. To curse you, of course! To destroy you a thousand times in the name of Mother ight! "Only a thousand times?" Percy murmured. "Oh, good... I thought we were in trouble."

Percy clenched his jaw. He didn't care how many curses he suffered. He had to keep these leathery old hags focused on him and protect Annabeth as long as he could. He yelled in fury and attacked them all.

"We've arrived," Leo announced. "Time to Split. Frank groaned. "Can we leave Valdez in Croatia?"

Nico didn't look convinced. In fact he looked like he was going to be sick. But he squared his shoulders and nodded. You're right. II'm not afraid ofa love god."

Yeah you do so shut up he has it hard with his internal homophobia 

"Ive been to Tartarus and back," Nico snarled. "You don't SCare me" I scare you ver, very much. Face me. Be honest.

"I had a crush on Percy," Nico spat. That's the truth. That's the big secret."

Welcome to the 4th Book in The Heroes of Olympus series, and this was once again the perfect book to just escape to after buys days at all, it was just what I needed to continue to follow our Demigods following on from the massive Cliffhanger of book 3 Chaos is everywhere!

Picking up after the events of Book 3. We begin with Hazel's point of view as the remaining group face an attack on the ship during their voyage to Greece. The perspectives of Jason, Piper, Frank, Leo and Hazel all allow for that journey in description, giving us the thoughts of each character during their dangerous trip to Greece and to the Doors of Death.

I absolutely loved and adored the relationship between Annabeth and Percy in here. They’ve come such a long way! When they started out, they were somewhat reluctant friends but boy, did their relationship grow over those last nine books. By now they are such a great couple, and I was so glad they had each other when they made their way through Tartarus. Their journey isn’t only extremely dangerous, it’s also almost hopeless and it was so good to see that they were in this together. Because quite honestly, if they’d have had to get through this all alone like Nico had to, I’m convinced they wouldn’t have been able to make it

Overall, House of Hades was an interesting read. This novel focused on key themes from the series of friendship, love, loyalty and the idea of choosing a destiny. Each of the characters undertakes their own particular trial in this novel, a trial which brings out the best in them and really plays on the ideals of the mythology of which Riordan bases his storytelling.

This is so much more intense than the other Riordan books to me. I loved seeing more of Percy and Annabeth together and the detailed descriptions of Tartarus.

A couple things to talk about:

I LIKED that we got the perspective of ALL SEVEN from the Prophecy. But...
For some reason, I keep feeling like we haven't had Piper's perspective since the Lost Hero, but I JUST READ the Mark of Athena, and I'm pretty sure her perspective was in there, but I can't be sure. 
Anyways, I really FEEL like I haven't' seen anything in Piper's perspective since TLH, and her perspective only showed up once in this book, it was after page 300, and she talked about how much she had changed since TLH. I didn't really see it, but whatever. And then there was the whole controlling-machinery-with-the-power-of-love!!! That was REALLY cheesy.

And then there was the thing with Nico that we found out when he Jason visited Cupid... and it didn't surprise me, at all, because I accidentally spoiled myself on tumblr FIFTY PAGES BEFORE I GOT TO IT!!! I'm not going to say that the spoiler ruined the experience for me, i mean would have preferred to have been surprised, but I still liked the twist, I think it made a lot of sense, and it adds a lot of depth to his character.

Also, Bob. Like, omigod, Bob. My eyes actually watered while I was reading this book, and it was for Bob.

*When I say my eyes watered, that's like as close as I get to crying*

Overall, I really loved this book, dived straight into the next and last one. It'l be hard, saying goodbye.

I can't believe how I was super amazed by this book! I love how the 7 demigods have developed! OH LEO! And of couse NICOOOOOO 🥰 this is my favorite book in the series so far! Absolutely awesome!

I do not understand why people describe this book as dragging, because while I was reading it, it did not feel at all like that. Perhaps it's because I feel too at home in or with this series? Maybe by just simply hearing about my favorite demigods, it really makes me feel glad to know that they're still out there (albeit in another fictional dimension) taking on adventures? Perhaps it is this way.

I also felt that this book kind of just delayed the inevitable. This novel was a transition towards the real thing, but not the real deal itself, which is fine. We all need transitions as not to shock ourselves with what's about to happen.

What a ride! 

The character development and relationships between the crew were incredible! A super enjoyable read, and might actually be one of my favorite books so far in both the PJO/HoO series! 

Now for a short break from the universe before I probably get my heart broken in the fifth book. 

-gonna leave myself a reminder to re-read this for the Calypso arc.

           Throughout the House of Hades there were tense moments and great action scenes. Nico's revelation about his sexuality was really surprising because I really didn't expect Rick Riordan to bring in issues like this into the series. Percy's and Annabeth's experiences in Tartarus were fascinating and there were many moments where they came close to death but of course survived. Also Leo meeting Calypso was adorable ;) There wasn't a huge cliff-hanger at the end of the book compared to the previous book but nevertheless I can't wait to read the last book of the series !

At the conclusion of The Mark of Athena, Annabeth and Percy tumble into a pit leading straight to the Underworld. The other five demigods have to put aside their grief and follow Percy’s instructions to find the mortal side of the Doors of Death. If they can fight their way through the Gaea’s forces, and Percy and Annabeth can survive the House of Hades, then the Seven will be able to seal the Doors both sides and prevent the giants from raising Gaea. But, Leo wonders, if the Doors are sealed, how will Percy and Annabeth be able to escape?

They have no choice. If the demigods don’t succeed, Gaea’s armies will never die. They have no time. In about a month, the Romans will march on Camp Half-Blood. The stakes are higher than ever in this adventure that dives into the depths of Tartarus.

The House of Hades (The Heroes of Olympus, Book 4)

In 2012 I first heard about the Percy Jackson series, a fictional series about the children of Greek Gods (aka demigods). I read the books and fell in love with the characters, the story, everything! Then, I found out there was a sequel series called The Heroes of Olympus, featuring old characters but also new characters. Including the most important: Jason, Piper, Leo, Hazel and Frank. These books feature more Greek (and also Roman) heroes, gods, monsters and much much more!

The House of Hades is the fourth book in the series. It starts off a couple of days (hours?) after Percy and Annabeth fell into Tartarus (which is like the worst part of Hell. It's the place where the monsters come from). The rest of the team doesn't know what to do after losing their 'leaders', but they decide to not let Percy and Annabeth's sacrifice be in vain. They travel from Italy to Greece - with several detours and monster attacks along the way - in order to close the Doors of Death. Meanwhile - in Tartarus - Percy and Annabeth are struggling to get to their side of the Doors, but they get help from some very unexpected companions.

Personally, I like the story of the Percy Jackson series better, but I like the writing style of these books more. The Heroes of Olympus books feel a lot more 'grown-up', or at least they feel more YA than the PJ books, which were definitely books for kids around the age of 12. I did enjoy these books though, because it was more of the Greek demigods which I love, and then with the Romans added made it even more awesome (okay technically, the Roman gods are the exact same as the Greek ones, except they have different names, and sometimes a god(dess) has one or two different 'powers' in Roman than they have in Greek).

My favourite chapters had to be the ones from Percy or Annabeth's POV, mainly because I wanted to know how their journey through Tartarus went. The descriptions of that place were incredibly awful though, and it made me a bit terrified. I probably wouldn't have been as brave as those two if I ended up in a place like that, also I probably would have died almost instantly. But Percy and Annabeth are of course 'professional' demigods, and they know how to fight and survive. Still, I was so afraid for them throughout the whole book, and I was so convinced something was going to go wrong.

The writing was, as usual, very good and I just couldn't stop reading. I guess I finished two/thirds of the story within this weekend, mainly because I hadn't read a thing during the previous week and I just wanted to finish a book. But the writing in THoH just made me want to read and read and read. I just love how Riordan is able to mix drama with humour, I have several quotes marked that just made me laugh out loud. I do believe that demigods have the worst luck EVER, because every time they seem to be safe, they get attacked by something else again. Maybe that's the problem of having such a big book, stuff needs to keep happening in order for it to be exciting. That was the only thing I didn't really like about this book - that a lot of the fights just seemed to be added to fill up the book and delay the demigods even further, ha ha ha!

In the end, I really really liked The House of Hades and I both can't and can wait to get my hands on the last book in this series, The Blood of Olympus. Then, after that I will pick up Riordan's new demigod series; Magnus Chase and the Gods of Asgard - YES, a book about Norse Goods, woohooooooo!
