Totally agree with the rest of the people here about the book. The book should be interesting, it is about food and restaurants, my fave topic, but this book feels empty and amateur. Are they really Indian family fleeing for their lives to Europe to start anew? I feel like that part is lacking a soul from a non-Indian author. The description of the dishes were almost good enough but I guess there were many things went unexplained in this book, a shame, because it could have been good. I did watch the film, a long time ago, before I picked up the book and I thought the film was somewhat better thanks to Helen Mirren who played Madame Mallory, the rest of the cast? Maybe not so much. Anyway, the book is still entertaining, hence the 3 stars

** spoiler alert ** I loved the beautiful descriptions in this book but I feel like it was 2 separate stories that were sort of smooshed together. The first half of the story was about his family moving to France and the struggle of opening up an Indian restaurant. The second half was about the main character and his life in Paris as a semi-famous 2/3 star chef. These were both very interesting stories but I feel like they were both missing that spark which would have come if they were their own separate books. All in all, I did enjoy it
