This one earned the second 5-star for 2021. I read this because one of my best friends was reading it for her book club, and I'll generally read whatever everybody around me is reading. I'm not gonna lie, I got pretty intimidated by the sheer size of this novel, especially considering the subject matter, but I put my big-girl panties on, sat down with a gallon of water, and got to reading. 
 Three days later I finally finished.
 This was a sweeping tale, covering multiple countries and multiple characters' stories. It's such a well-written tale too. It made me feel like I was experiencing every moment alongside these people, and that's hard to do.

I had made a quiet little pact with myself that I was done with novels and memoirs that deal with the holocaust. I've just read enough - I reasoned - and what more is there to say? But somehow I keep adding them to my to-read list and when they bubble to the top of said list I ignore my agreement to push them aside for some other subject matter - and off I go. 

I am so glad I can't be trusted to stick to silly self-to-self pacts. 

The plot and characters of The Invisible Bridge are so rich and believable. And even though there was more than enough of the descriptions of the labor camps they were necessary to pound this poor family to the brink of destruction. I mean so close to that brink that you wonder how anyone could have possibly been left to breathe a word of all this history to anyone.
