The Kiss of Death

The Kiss of Death

Auryn Hadley2018
I always imagined Death's final kiss would be cold. It wasn't. Four years later, I can still remember the exact shade of his skin: a blue so pale it looked like moonlight. I dream of his touch. Mostly, I paint the man under the heavy cowl, including those perfect lips which ruined mine for anyone else. I'm obsessed with him. The doctors say he's nothing more than a hallucination caused by a mixture of head trauma and emergency pain medications. I think he's a really sexy figment of my imagination. I mean, who besides an artist would dream up the Grim Reaper for their hero? Now, something's changed and my drawings are taking on a life of their own. As if college wasn't hard enough, trying to keep this a secret is going to be impossible. Keeping my sanity might be worse. And that's not the worst of my problems.Death is back. He wants another kiss. And he's not alone. The Kiss of Death is a 156,000 word, full-length novel with NO cliffhanger ending. This is a Reverse Harem series which includes multiple love interests, some m/m themes, and graphic scenes of sex, violence, and language. Be warned: everything you thought you knew about the world, religion, and death will be pulled apart, twisted around, and put back together in ways you will not expect.

This book was awesome! I have been in a funk for a while. I have what I call book ADD, nothing is holding my attention for longer than a half hour. Which if you know me is really weird. This book was a refreshing pace from the typical RH book. It is a slower burn than I usually prefer. However, I think it portrays the female protagonists hesitant nature to break the social norm that at least is more believable than the instant romance. If I would change anything I would enjoy a faster pace of the story line. It does take a bit to get going. Otherwise, I would recommend to anyone who enjoys reverse harem novels.

The Demons' Muse series is one of my favorites, and not just because of the good steamy scenes. The series follows Sienna Parker and her journey of finding out what her entire existence means, all while trying to save the world and navigate her relationships with the hot demons (and angel) around her. Objectively, this series is not as great as some of the more popular YA/NA series. I personally liked it because it twisted views on religion and Hadley gave enough detail to keep my interested. The one thing I can complain about is the POV-- it changed too often for me. I would rather the whole series be in Sienna's point of view, but I trust Hadley's choices for the most part. Be aware that there are very steamy scenes throughout the series, but that's not what the whole series is about.

Before I become professional in my review, first things first: THIS BOOK WAS AMAZING!! If you only read one book this week, or month, this book needs to be it!! DO IT. Now, for your regularly schedule program This book was given to me as an ARC read. I give my unbiased opinion freely and was not persuaded to do so. Ahem. Alright, now to the real stuff. I've read all of Auryns books (multiple times) and the best thing about them? You don't feel like you're reading a book you've already read, and this book was no different. Kiss of Death features a strong heroine, Sia, without compromising the supporting characters. The other characters are still strong in their own right, but they don't try and belittle her for being a strong woman. Let's talk about plot book for just a hot second. The plot: In typical Auryn fashion it's not choppy; you're able to enjoy a good book without gaps that leave you wondering what just happened. Don't get me wrong though, Auryn herself is a little devil and likes to throw some curves in there (the hairpin type). You never expect them, and you're left reading till 430 in the morning because, of course, you have to know what happens next. The world building is FLAWLESS. We're dealing with Angels and Demons, so you now that there's going to be more than just one realm to build. It's never overwhelming, and all the information builds as the book goes on so you aren't bombarded with a brain overload of the realms, then immediately forget it all. All in all, I've already recommended this book to all my friends because it's just THAT GOOD. Coming in at 415 ish pages, it keeps you enthralled the entire course of the book. With action, mystery, and of course an AMAZING love story, you honestly can't go wrong with Kiss of Death.
