I feel like I know Dr Ruth Galloway very well, that we could go down the pub and have a glass of wine and chat about all kinds of things. This feeling of warmth, comfort and familiarity is credit to Elly Griffiths. As each new installment comes out I rush to buy it so it can join its friends, in hardback, on the shelf. The Lantern Men goes back to the Saltmarsh and the legend of the mysterious man who is known by his light. As always, the story is shrouded in myths, legend and magic, which makes Norfolk come to life. For me, the real draw are the characters, in particular Ruth and Nelson. Their on and off again relationship keeps me hooked, always eager to find out more. Not only is there a solid murder mystery, the humour throughout makes it an enjoyable read. Turns and twists aplenty, I couldn't put it down. Now to wait patiently for the next one.
