An easy to read thriller that for me falls into the category of, “not bad, but not great either.” If thrillers are your thing, pick this up. If you have other books in your queue, don’t prioritize this one. 🤷‍♀️

For me, this book kept me occupied enough throughout to keep reading but by the half way point I was just reading to finish it. 

This book is about a girl named Avery, from the wrong side of the tracks whose world is shattered when her best friend is found dead of an apparent suicide. 

Even though the book was full of mystery, suspense and lies...and there was a plot twist that I didn't see coming, it overall lacked the "WOW" factor for me. I didn't hate this book, I just didn't love it either.

This book made me so irrationally angry. Hard to say anything I actually liked about it. I absolutely hated the organization of the book and had such a hard time keeping track of past or present. I also couldn’t keep track of all the different characters. I reached a point that I think was supposed to be a big “reveal” and couldn’t even appreciate it because I didn’t remember who that person was in relation to the rest of the story.

The cover is the only good part about this book. Don’t waste your time.

Set against the backdrop of coastal Maine and filled with the usual cast of flawed characters, The Last House Guest is a great read. Megan Miranda always writes books where the town has a chilling atmosphere., where the settings are almost like another character in the story. I definitely recommend this one and give it 5 creepy stars.

I was excited to read this one because I had heard good things about it. However I was so bored! The last few chapters is when things started to pick up and just when it gets really good…it’s the end of the book.

It was okay. Made me feel like I should take a break from all these "psychological thrillers" I've been addicted to for the past 2 years. It's all starting to feel the same and nothing surprising comes out of them. 

"All the missing girls" was good, not excellent but good. So when I picked this up, I was hoping for a decent mystery but it was lacking in surprises or any originality. 

It was just okay and I want better than that right now.

As always, Megan Miranda is great at building a space town atmosphere for a mystery to unravel in. 

I listened to this book via audio thanks to my library. I think this made the book a bit more interesting that it would have been if I was reading it traditionally. The revels and twists were all a bit blah? Like the characters would offer them up super easy, even though they've been holding onto them for a year.

If you have enjoyed Megan Miranda's other books, I would say you'd enjoy this!

Avery Greer, a townie girl with a troubled past is essentially taken in by Sadie Loman, the daughter of an affluent vacation family in Maine. The girls are inseparable for decades. Avery becomes enmeshed within the Loman family and their business, overseeing their properties in town. All is perfect in Avery's world until the summer Sadie dies. Even though her death was ruled a suicide, Avery feels the suspicion and blame cast on her. Avery is determined to find out what happened to her best friend. 

This book just did not do it for me, it was almost too cliche and I felt like I didn't fully connect with any of the characters. There was no 'wow' moments for me, no shock factor so I don't think. this book will have a long lasting impact on me.

The characters were very flat and the plot was very predictable. I didn't like the structure of the chapters either; they were short but that didn't create any tension, which I suppose was the idea. 

It's not a bad book per se,it just wasn't for me.

2.75 stars. This is my second read from the author and I have to say there was something formulaic about this novel that just reminded me too much of All The Missing Girls. 
However, I didn’t really care for these unlikable characters. I can usually get behind unlikable characters if I enjoy the plot or their reasonings, but that just didn’t happen with this book. It took me so long to get through the story because it felt like the main characters as repeating the same lines over and over again without any new information being revealed. The same tension was recycled throughout and because of this there was no growth or intrigue. 
No don’t get me wrong. The concept is interesting and the ending definitely helped boost the rating. I just wish there was more happening in the middle. This book felt like the character was telling us everything as it happened rather than showing…and all the details began to look the same.
Easy thriller to begin, hard to trudge through the middle, but a decent ending.

I literally finished this one day ago and I had to read the synopsis to remind myself what’s it was about. 
Such a shame, a really good premise, but I didn’t enjoy the story or the writing. It wasn’t bad, it was just super slow and nothing grabbed me. It felt like a slog to push through to the end and the payoff wasn’t worth it for me.

I’ll admit I was a little worried about halfway through this one. When I read Megan Miranda’s All the Missing Girls I could not put it down! She seemed to want to keep the mystery so vague in this one that it sometimes got a bit confusing for me, but it did all come full circle in the end and I was able to actually predict the two biggest reveals in the book. They still gave me chills though. 

Avery is a bit hard to connect with and this story very much focuses on the mystery and Sadie’s death instead of the characters and their relationships. I wish we could have had a better view of Avery’s and Sadie’s friendship. I didn’t really get the “family” connection that was mentioned throughout the story and that made it harder for the plot to really reel me in, I think. 

Miranda does a really good job laying out her elaborative plots in a way that prevents you from spoiling yourself too soon, so I think it’s the perfect suspense for any reader. 

I would definitely recommend this one for those who love to try to solve the mystery before the big reveal at the end because you’ll be wracking your brain for a while trying to piece it together.

Already looking for another book by Megan Miranda. It was a 4.5 for me. I enjoyed it. Had a great sense of ominous place, and likable (albeit often broken) characters, except the ones we weren't supposed to like. Some nice red herrings. Good suspense. Can't wait for the next by this author.

Have to decide on the next book that fits a challenge for Spookathon.
