I could not put this book down, I had to read it in one siting. This book was amazing, and so heartbreaking. I don't think I have enough words to describe how this book made me feel.

Not my all time favourite, but definitely a lovely story that deserves to be told. My only other experience with a Hiroshima/Nagasaki story was reading Hiroshima by John Hersey in the eighth grade.

This beautiful and moving book looks at the aftermath of the atomic bomb dropped on Hiroshima on 6th August 1945, and how it affects the life of a 17 year old boy.

Told in verse, haiku and prose, moving between the present day and year following the explosion, seeing how it affected someone on such a personal level makes it easily accessible. A young person would be able to understand the events in a way that a school history lesson might not have been able to communicate. 

The illustrations are the perfect accompaniment and give the book an added dimension which I loved.

This is an wonderful book to introduce the topic of nuclear war to a younger generation or for older readers who would like to gain an additional perspective into the events at the end of the Second World War.

It is so important that these stories continue to be told so the mistakes and atrocities of the past are never repeated.
