Content Warning: There are some mentions of the main character being sexually assaulted as a minor. While it is roughly exposed, it seems to be a major plot point in the later books.

So this was a really good story. But the reason I didn’t rate it higher was because I felt it lacked some insight into the characters. I really liked them, but it kinda felt like we were thrown into the middle of their story and there wasn’t as much detail given to their lives or relationships. 

There was a ton of investigation scenes in this book, I think there were maybe three scenes where there was just characters interacting without the bigger mystery of the book being a huge factor, and that’s where it fell flat for me. I’m all about characters in a story, and the more I can connect with the characters the more I’ll love the story. So since there was so much of the investigating action and not so much character interaction, I felt like we didn’t get to really know the characters as much as I’d have liked. I feel like if I were given that opportunity that this story would’ve been so much more for me because the characters are so great and I can totally see myself loving them all. I did feel a bit more connected with the characters towards the end of the book after everything they’d been thought but I still just feel like I need more. 

I’m still looking forward to reading the next book in the series and seeing what is next to come for the characters. For anyone who loves fantasy and isn’t as crazily character driven as I am then I think you’d love this book. The characters are truly a delight and the magic system is really cool too.

Autumn 

This was an okay novel. 
The main character was very likable but the book has this vibe that reminds me of the Anita Blake series which makes me slightly hesitant in moving forward with the series. 
I did enjoy it. It wasn't a life-changing read but it was very entertaining. The world-building and the lore confused me a bit and the ending's action sequence ran a bit too long but as a whole, a good book.

I struggled so hard to get through this book. I t was slow moving and I didn't care about any of the characters. I thought it was an interesting premise, but this was not a book for me.
