I loved this even more than book one of the series. India’s writing is just so witty, whimsical, and sneakily funny. And her heroes are always so down bad, before they even realize it themselves. I also love that this is historical but feminist and in a magical realism world where women can rule, still within the confines of societal norms of the time but in ways these characters exploit rather than are oppressed by. It’s honestly so healing while not being overbearing. I loved the mix of romance and adventure in this one.

Witty but almost too witty. I wished the magic was better explained: why are witches bad but pirates magically flying houses is fine? The Jane Austen thoughts were cute at first but then quickly over used and annoying, but outside of that, the book was cute and unique and absurd in a fun, colorful way. Romeo and Juliet to the max.

Was really excited for Alex as the main character but I think I liked the first one better... I got through the first half pretty fast but it took me longer for the second one. But still a very easy read, with an interesting, unique setting

In the first ten pages, I couldn’t get through two without feeling the desire to desecrate the novel by underlining at least one sentence. So why did it take me so long to finish? I blame a bad head space. This month has proven to be full of things good and bad that have certainly kept me busy from books and the enjoyment of them. But it isn’t stopping me from loving this book full of Jane Austen goodness and bees. The third installment in this series is still my favorite, but I adored reading about Charlotte and Alex. Don’t let the extended time fool you. The shenanigans and hooliganism that ensues in these pages are a riot. I’m also learning the author is autistic and wrote a few of her characters, including Charlotte and Alex, to be autistic, which may be why I relate so much to Holton’s humor and her characters. 10/10 loved it and will read again!

Pirates, witches, and manners, oh my! What a charmer of a tale! Fun crisp prose guides you through this adventure. Plenty of characters populated this story, but it’s priority is Alex and Charlotte, pirate and witch respectively. But these aren’t your average pirate or witch characters- not with sailing houses and respectable manners. Charming and delightful.

4.25 stars, rounded up. LOVED this book and Alex and Charlotte!! This book was better than the first, imo, but there were still some slow parts. Definitely give it a read if you were on the fence after the first book!

Absolutely brilliant- as good, if not better than the first!!!!

i think i enjoyed this less than the previous one since a lot of it was just them thinking of reasons to have sex but otherwise, this was light-hearted fun regardless. that's about it.

This book is so fun! Oh my goodness, the whole concept is hilarious and well put together. Very proper witches and pirates and an adventure! It is silly and swoony and creative and I loved every minute of it. 
I read this without reading the first one and it was understandable without. I think that reading the first would have given a little more clarity to the world but I still thoroughly enjoyed it!

Holton's debut novel was one of my favorite reads of 2021, so I was highly anticipating this follow-up, and it exceeded all my expectations! If you were to take the adventure hijinks of The Princess Bride, the wittiness of Monty Python, and the sass of the Parasol Protectorate, you would get Holton's writing. It can be both whip-smart and utterly ridiculous at the same time, and that's one of my favorite combinations. Her comedic timing is on point, and always manages to hit you with a sarcastic remark or deadpan delivery at just the right moment. Just like the first book, I was hooked from the first paragraph and couldn't read fast enough. Charlotte and Alex are both arrogant and stubborn which led to amazing banter (and me going, "Ok, now, kiss" in my head), and were just so fun to follow. Charlotte isn't the most likable character at first, but she grows on you by the end. Aside from the characters, the plot is solid and so enjoyable. It's such a fast-paced wild romp of a ride. I was chuckling to myself the entire time. If you enjoy historical fiction, fantasy, or romance (with a little bit of steaminess), you need to check this series out.
