First of all, I applaud this solid fantasy debut. It's overall a pretty interesting experience given that I never read an entire novel by an anonymous author. I quite liked the magic system (which took inspiration from popular fantasy reads) and the premise on beginnings / endings propelled me to give the book a proper try. 

This novel revolves around 3 main characters: 1 from the story within the novel, 2 from the main plot line. I really liked how the parallel timelines in the novel unfold and intertwine (e.g. S'rae relating to one of the characters from the story within) and I feel that it's done pretty smoothly when I'm around 1/3 through. In particular I find the story within pretty well done both from character development and also in establishing the worldbuilding. However I couldn't say the same for the main plot line due to too little pages being fleshed out on what's happening real time (I think the pacing is a bit too rushed). So it would be nice if more time is taken to explore & develop the side characters.

As of the main characters in mind they show growth throughout the novel. Some of the central themes being explored includes friendships, family, and forgiveness. These themes are developed pretty decently in S'rae and Destrou. But there's also room for improvement, for example I wasn't very convinced about Vayp's part and the buildup to the ending felt uneven and rushed. I was also slightly let down by the lack of exploration into the supporting characters. I really hope they will be explored more in depth in the subsequent installments because the magic system seems to have a lot of potential (and I understand that in a first book establishing the worldbuilding is its priority). So it seems like this is one of the books where I really need to be in the right mood to read.

Last but not least, probably the most solid aspect of this novel is the little details & the meta quotes which follows the book's original premise. In addition to the central themes being mentioned in the last paragraph, I also found myself slowing down enjoying the specific quotes which gave me food for thoughts on morality e.g. what makes a person a good person. It's written in a pretty simple language but some of the quotes are also pretty beautifully written so I appreciated that.

Overall, this is a pretty solid fantasy with original magic system and a good worldbuilding. It's not perfect - the characters and the pacing have rooms foe improvement (and I think this was why I wasn't able to get really into story until later in the book), but the underlying concept behind the book left me interested to find out what will happen next. It's a pity that this book isn't very easy to find, but I think it's a pretty good addition to anyone who's up for a unique fantasy book which tackles with human themes.

Destrou has a book written about his life, which has been bound away since the beginning of time. And S'rae is destined to read it. At first, reading a book to uncover a secret seems foolish until S'rae finds herself with the ability to affect its world, watching the words of his life change before her eyes. But that's nothing compared to the shadows plotting to kill them to make sure Destrou's secret is not told. As S'rae is drawn deeper into the book, it teaches her that no one ever truly knows when they're the villain in someone else's story. Not only must she find the courage to face impossible choices and figure out how she's connected to Destrou, but she must battle the dark secrets in her own heart that tell her she may be the villain in her story.

Alright so! Finally getting around to posting this review which im super excited to share! 

I had the honor of being one of the ARC readers on this book and I really did love it. 
I loved the world building, the history, the characters and most of all the sincerity and purity of the story itself. I've never read a book where the entire point of it is for everyone to realize that there's no way to conquer evil on your own but together as a team. I feel like this is a really good kids book contender but as an adult I can also really enjoy it. Once I have the physical book when it comes out in January 2019 I will definitely be putting it on my Percy Jackson shelf! 

I loved that it made me miss the characters whenever I put it down, whats a story without characters that pull you in anyways right? Also something about the writing felt very Garth Nix to me and by that I mean that the scenery is described in a way where every reader has the chance to give it their own twist.

Overall I did love it, and its the only book that I ever read on my phone that's been able to keep my attention I usually have to read books physically because its impossible for me otherwise. The only thing I will say is that for a fantasy book the dialogue felt like reading a contemporary high school book by that I mean it didn't feel like fantasy in a sense it was more like normal kids doing normal stuff. That's really the I guess 'complaint' as to why it didn't get the full five stars but its an awesome story with really fun characters!
