The Lie and How We Told It feels very representative of certain aspects of adulthood, but the somewhat relentless ennui got to me after a bit. A bit too Gen X meets Millenial for my taste, but great artwork and fantastic reflection of emotions regardless of my personal taste.

This was a beautiful book that elegantly deconstructed hegemonic discourses of love oriented around a traditional monogamous family. Love must be shaped by you, or it is not your love. Those who conform to normative love are miserable in sharp contrast to the shifting identities of those who embrace their queerness. 

‘The sex was fun but in a fleeting kind of way, my growing disdain for him muddying the pleasure. His understanding of fucking was disappointingly and uncreatively heterosexual. The world beginning and ending with his cock. How can someone learn so little in all those years?’
