An astounding true story of heroism in the face of evil, lightly and expertly fictionalised by Sharon Cameron. The title suggests some generic sob story, but the book is far better than that. Highly recommended.

I'm speechless.

Despite the fact that the writing style was less than incredible, the story grabbed me by the throat and never let go. So, so heartbreaking to know this was based on a true story. And yet, that's why I'm sitting here speechless even now.

Because the bravery of these men and women in the face of such horror . . . that is something that will stick with me for a long time.

Please, let's never forget Stefania's story.

One knock at the door, and Stefania has a choice to make... It is 1943, and for four years, sixteen-year-old Stefania has been working for the Diamant family in their grocery store in Przemsyl, Poland, singing her way into their lives and hearts. But everything changes when the German army invades Przemsyl. Wow. I don’t think five stars is enough. Typically I’m not a fan of historical fiction or books that have so many words in a language I don’t understand but wow. This was a story that definitely needed to be told..and I can only imagine what those times must’ve been like. There is always good hidden in the bad. And sometimes our silence is golden. The story of the Jews is proof of that. Wow. Just wow. That’s really all I can say.

I do not have words worthy of reviewing a book as amazing as this one. Through Cameron's narrative, the reader fully inhabit's Fusia's world, a world that we have no other way of inhabiting or even imagining. 
I went into reading this book almost completely blind, knowing only the general setting. When I got to the end, not only did I absolutely love it but I also discovered something that made me love it even more than I already did. Since I believe that knowing only the genera setting brings a wow factor due to the reveal at the end, I will not say more.
I have already placed this on my wishlist to have in my classroom.
