this is the first time i got through a renault book with some difficulty. granted, i still found this enjoyable overall, but it wasn’t until the second half that i felt like the pace was actually starting to pick up. thank god for that! 

as always, there were many endearing moments i will often think of in the following months. the 

 reference (the idea of an actor in ancient greece having a premonitory dream about one of the greatest plays in human history is so so beautiful) and the mentions/appearance of historical characters that we know from 

 and the alexander trilogy. i’m starting to call this the mcu (mary renault cinematic universe).
