The Mayfair Moon was previously sent to me by Jessica Redmerski to review. Book one of The Darkwoods Trilogy; The Mayfair Moon is a brilliant young adult, fantasy book.

How much I enjoyed the book: 9/10
How good the book was: 8/10

The Mayfair Moon introduces us to a world in which Werewolves live amongst humans; hiding their true identities. The cover is my favourite amongst the books I’ve been sent. The eery background, stunning models and of course the fact that the male isn’t completely human combine to set the perfect ambience for the story to come. The Mayfair Moon is not my first werewolf book (and certainly not my last!) but the limited information regarding the ancestry and lineage of the werewolves of today intrigued me. I was slightly disappointed as I like to read the details behind the fantastical creatures, though the synopsis for the sequel(s) suggests that we are given limited details for further story development along the line.

Relationships and love are huge themes within The Mayfair Moon. Unfortunately I didn’t find myself invested in the romance between Adria and Isaac. I love to read the build up and anticipation leading up to a romance, so the abrupt declaration of love had me cringing slightly. I love them as a couple, but I’d happily read more on the other characters and their experiences than spend my time concentrating on just the pair of them.

Speaking of relationships, I was literally astounded by the deteriorating relationship between Adria and her sister, Alex. The sisters begin as inseparable, best friends and rapidly become enemies in opposing camps in the middle of a centuries old war. The change in Alex’s personality consistently frustrated me and I found myself feeling just as confused as Adria. Her almost bipolar personality is another factor of the story that I hope to see more of in the second and third books of The Darkwoods Trilogy.

I’m also looking forward to reading more about the Mayfair family. The mass of girls (described as a “harem” by Adria), the pure blood Mayfairs, their parents: I’ve found myself becoming more and more curious about everything we aren’t told.

I can’t wait to read the follow-up book to The Mayfair Moon: Kindred! Lucky for me, I’m way behind on my book review requests and so the whole trilogy has already been published! I’m eager to read more and have all of the questions in my mind answered. After the trilogy comes further books in the same world all part of The Prevarian Chronicles so I’m looking forward to spending a good deal of my time in the future in Jessica Redmerski’s alternate world.
