I'm dry. I read this book at a very special time in my life. At the monsoon of early 2024, rain was pouring hard at my grandma's house. A blackout was happening not too long after the rain, which lasted for 3 days alongside the rain.

The place is on the mountain, so I can't go out if I want to, because rain and mountain is not a good combination for survival.

So, I read this book under emergency light and candles. Pages turn after page turn; I'm getting more attached to the story. I can feel the winter from the book even though I never touch snow. I didn't know that a book could be this magical.

It really is a lovely book. I cried 3 times. I never cried or teared up ever since a long time ago, when I put down the Paper Menagerie, and I'm glad to have been able to feel, to empathize again after so long.

Here are my favorite kind of story: 
1. parallel universe thingy where the past and the future are connected,
2. packed with life lesson, and
3. the characters with the whole different story are connected to each other. 

This book has it all. Slow but fast paced story which keep making me astonished in every page. The background story of each character in every chapter is just common thing in our life, but somehow this book shows some part we haven’t discover about life. The whole conversations by letter between Namiya-san and the three guys and the senders is also entertaining. 

This book makes me realized how powerful a person’s impact in other people’s life. I will not recover from this book for few days; thinking am i impactful in other’s life? Am i helpful to my surroundings? I will be more more careful of my action after this.

Man, Keigo Higashino never disappoints. I've been a fan since I first read the Devotion of Suspect X way back in 2016, and its the first time I've read one of his work outside his crime stuff. I absolutely love how everything was connected, and the mystery of the Namiya General Store was but a wholesome one. Higashino-san, I want to know how your mind works.

I'm a very big fan of time travel/time connection fantasies so this book was definitely for me. 8/10

First things first, I couldn't help but be annoyed and angry with those three guys, especially Atsuya for replying to the letter recklessly and feel like they're the one that the most know about life misery (refer to part fish shop musicians and hostess girls). Like I don't care they called it blunt or else, when Namiya-san spend his whole night thinking about words by words that he supposed to write carefully when replying to someone. 

Beside than that this is a heartwarming book, and the story is really intriguing and there's so much things that you could learn from this book and the fact that everyone is connected to each other is just mind-blowing. Still, I enjoyed reading this book so much I finish it in one day.

Tapi ada hal paling berkesan yang didapat, yaitu “saran untuk orang lain mungkin kadang terkesan serampangan, tapi jika diterima dengan baik pasti memberikan kesan (apapun itu).” Jadi yaa jelas saran apapun itu, aku gak menyesal. Kalau memang tidak berguna ya sudah, as long as you’re happy.

awal2 boring yaa tapi lama2 seruuuuuu. it's mindblowing how toko kelontong namiya dan taman marumitsu saling berkaitan satu sama lain tokoh2 dan settingnya. spectacular!!

Buku ini adalah buku pertama karya Keigo Higashino yang kubaca, and I love it sm!!!
Terjemahannya sangat nyaman dibaca, ga kerasa 400 halaman bisa dihabiskan dalam waktu dua hari.
Ada banyak tokoh dalam buku ini, semua digambarkan dengan sangat apik, baik melalui narasi, dialog, ataupun isi surat. Walaupun cerita yang diusung tiap tokoh berbeda-beda, tapi kesemuanya saling terhubung. Aku masih kagum dengan cara penulis menghubungkan semua tokoh-tokohnya. Plot yang sangat bagus!
Latar tempat dan suasananya dituliskan dengan sangat detil, ini membuatku bisa mudah masuk ke dalam cerita.
Buku ini menggunakan alur maju mundur, dan locatan tiap waktunya bisa tiba-tiba, mungkin jika tidak jeli akan sedikit bingung.
Banyak pesan yang bisa kita petik dalam setiap kisah yang dialami para tokoh, mulai dari rasa pantang menyerah, menghargai orang lain, menghargai hidup, hingga harus percaya pada diri sendiri

The premise of the story itself is magical. A temporary bridge connecting the past and the present with the help of the letters dropped through the mailbox of an abandoned general store and somewhat linking different people together regardless of the time they're in. It's giving off a sense of nostalgia and longing. 

The fact that these people should be strangers, but throughout the story, we slowly learned that they have a somewhat loose connection with each other, albeit not knowing each other personally. The words transmitted by both the sender and the receiver of the letters affect each other's lives in a subtle way. The way it came back full circle is giving me this unexplainable feeling, like something is lightly scratching my heart. 

This book gave off an emotional and wistful feeling. I think my favorite part would have to be the struggling musician because his part is quite heartbreaking and knowing that it happened in the past, like it's already a forgotten memory, only added to the melancholy. I actually choked up a bit in his chapter. I could have given this book a higher rating than this if not for the last character where her part dragged on a little bit than it should, but overall, I liked this book a lot.

I think I'm going to try more books from this author.

i loveeeee how each character has their own problems and background tapi ternyata disamping itu mrk saling terkait.. aku sepanjang baca bnr2 kepikiran taylor’s song yang invisible string😭 cuma mnurutku ada beberapa part yang bikin bingung and make the story less engaging for some reason karena ekspektasiku lumayan tinggi sama buku ini but overall aku suka suka aja cuz i always enjoy stories that emphasize human connection

I found many inspiring quotes that makes me want to thrive at all my best and put my heart with faith that in the end of the day the light will guide you to.. hope. My heart felt all content while finished it. The light plot that you will finish at once seat.

initially skeptical about the concept of miracles, i approached the subject with a rational mindset. (i'm doing this because as far as i live, i've never seen miracles. apart from a miracle i could breathe to this day), this book presented a compelling exploration of miracles..... the author skillfully combined miracles, lovely stories, and mysteries to challenge preconceived notions. i've been reading or watching a lot about time travel into the past but it's just this book that amazes me how beautifully and wonderfully written it isand how great the writer was to make them connect to each other. the story is told in detail, with the problems of other people's lives but in one story connected to namiya's shop. it's really quite miraculous how the writer makes us turn page by page with so much curiosity welling up in our chest. BAGUS BANGET. the book not only provided captivating narratives of miraculous occurrences, but it also taught me a lot about life and made me put myself in every story that was in this book.. it presented a nuanced perspective that encouraged critical thinking while acknowledging the profound mysteries of existence. as i immersed myself in the pages, i found there are so many stories that i've come to realize that everyone in the world needs someone to talk. convey what they want to say, and they can't say it to anyone else.

i really loved the way Keigo made Yuji Namiya's character so incredibly sweet how he responded all the message with love. how he makes everything feel like his burden, but really, if he doesn't want to interfere, that's fine. but he is responsible and kind enough to help others sincerely....and don't forget my three kind-hearted thieves.
everything about this book, everything that uncle keigo poured into this book. i like it, I LOVE IT, AKU, SUKA BANGET no matter what. so I forced everyone to read this book. must read! at least once in a lifetime

Goosebumps. It has been such a delightful journey with this masterful piece. My experiences with Mr Higashino's books have always been outstanding mind-blowing 5 stars mystery books tagging Detective Galileo and Detective Kaga along their adventures. This book will forever remain in my heart as a 5 star and go-to repeat reads. My only regret is that I should have read this sooner. This book would have helped me through my difficult feelings few years back. Ah but better late than never!

This was akin to Before The Coffee Gets Cold. An amalgamation of short stories that transcend time and are interwoven together. Every story is connected through spacetime and a small store called Namiya general store

this one joins the pantheon of heartachingly beautiful japanese books, together with traveling cat chronicles and lonely castle in the mirror. 

where to begin? i never imagined a band of good-for-nothings, a beat up old general store, an orphanage, a broken romance, and a few droplets of magic could be woven into such a powerful story. each character sparkled with such intense humanity, and the way that they were all united by both plot and theme was just perfect. i’ll never forget the story of namiya and minazuki. 

how reassuring to see us all marching forward in life, striving. and how much more confidence should we have with God’s assurance of salvation and redemption!
