Probably not going to finish this anymore. All I have to say is this book was better than the previous one.

IT'S OVER THANK GOD

Don't get me wrong, The Mortal Instruments is a great series, but after the third book things just felt forced and I wasn't really enjoying it anymore. As much as I hate feeling obligated to finish series,I thought I just had to push through because I don't want to be left hanging like that, and I was also determined to see it till the end. And so now, here I am, finally, at the end of the road (lol but not really). It has been such a wonderful time with the Shadowhunters. 

I had a lot of reservations for City of Heavenly Fire because I expected things to be depressing and bleak as it usually is with concluding books, but I think Cassandra Clare balanced it out well with the right amount of humor. Even with Sebastian clearly being one step ahead of them at every turn, Jace and Simon still manage to cheer the gang up with their incredible wit and sarcastic banter. 

In the sixth and final installment of The Mortal Instruments, the three overshadowed characters, Alec, Izzy and Simon and finally given bigger roles! Alec's parabatai bond with Jace is more deeply discussed and I'm thankful for that since I've always compared it to the bond Will and Jem shared in The Infernal Devices. Simon and Izzy (let the ship set sail!) and their relationship are shed in a brighter light. I loved seeing them grow and mature into wonderful people, getting hurt and earning life lessons along the way. Major character development yay!  although that part where Simon forgets about the Shadowhunter world is VERY annoying and unnecessary since he gets back his memories at the freaking ending!!!.

I like how the past and the future collide here, with the Carstairs and the Blackthorns being properly introduced and Jem and Tessa finally sorting things out. I sympathized with the Blackthorns, and I saw a lot of potential in them. I guess I'm gonna have to read The Dark Artifices, especially since I've grown fond of Julian and Emma. I also LOVE Tessa and Jem together because I've always shipped them right from the beginning. The lovely and swoon-worthy James Carstairs, finally gets to live the life he deserves. 

Cassandra Clare's writing is superb as usual. She makes the third person and POV switching work well. I also observed how her writing is very consistent throughout the whole series, and I love how it's quite different from the writing style of The Infernal Devices which also had an impressive amount of consistency. Her prose is wonderful as usual, the dialogues, the banter and the monologues were great, too. 

All in all, impressive closure on all the issues raised throughout the entire series, character development is good, Malec moments galore, all the freaking feelings. It did drag quite a bit, but over all this book was great. Go for it, brother.
