⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💫

This is a gothic-style ,atmospheric thriller with some horror vibes. Oh-and some Norwegian myths and folklore thrown in for good measure. It’s the story of Lexi, homeless and suffering from depression, who steps into a nanny job in Norway by pretending to be someone else.

This novel has a creepy plot, but don’t let that fool you. It explores deep themes of environmental protection and mental health. I loved it.

"Architect Tom Faraday is building a high-concept, environmentally friendly home in Norway that he and his wife Aurelia had dreamed of--in the same place where she lost her life to suicide. He hires a nanny, Lexi, to help care for his two young daughters, and she quickly becomes protective of the girls. Lexi feels a pervasive sense of creepiness and haunting in the isolated house nestled in the forests along the fjord. When Aurelia's diary appears in her room one day, Lexi can't help but read it and discovers secrets of violence and betrayal"--

I was expecting a mystery/thriller grounded in reality, but what I got was more of a mystery with supernatural elements (well, more than just elements). I wasn't a huge fan of the writing nor was I a fan of the character taking care of the children. All in all, it wasn't awful, but it also wasn't amazing for me.

Atmospheric, gothic, spine-chilling, the new thriller from C.J Cooke will haunt you long after you turn the last page...

The woods are creeping in on a nanny and two young girls in this chilling modern Gothic thriller. Architect Tom Faraday is determined to finish the high-concept, environmentally friendly home he’s building in Norway—in the same place where he lost his wife, Aurelia, to suicide. It was their dream house, and he wants to honor her with it. Lexi Ellis takes a job as his nanny and immediately falls in love with his two young daughters, especially Gaia. But something feels off in the isolated house nestled in the forest along the fjord. Lexi sees mysterious muddy footprints inside the home. Aurelia’s diary appears in Lexi’s room one day. And Gaia keeps telling her about seeing the terrifying Sad Lady. . . . Soon Lexi suspects that Aurelia didn’t kill herself and that they are all in danger from something far more sinister lurking around them.
