This historical fiction book is told by two brave women--Astrid and Noa. Both end up performing at the same circus during World War 2 and both have secrets to hide from the Nazis. This book is at times difficult to read due to content but is always powerful. There are elements of romance in a trying time. Jenoff writes well and this book flows wonderfully to be a quick read.

wow this book was so heartbreakingly beautiful. i knew it was gonna be a good one when it had me crying twenty pages in. it was also kind of refreshing as it was a bit of a different storyline from other books i’ve read that take place in this time period.

DNF @ 33% :(. I’m not sure if it was my mood or if I should have read the physical copy instead but I could just sense myself feeling dread every time I went to listen to it, and would often choose music instead. I pushed for longer than I normally would because the whole runaways+endless love+circus+historical fiction thing was totally all of my vibes - a little bit disappointed that it wasn’t all I had dreamed of :(.

This was such a quick read-I couldn’t put it down! Well written and a nice change of pace from the usual WW2 books I find myself reading.

I don't know why I insist onreading books set on this time period whrn I know they make me sad. 

Obviously this book is quite sad. But it's also beautifully written. And the relationship between Noa and Astrid is portrayed in such an amazing and moving way. 

The Orphan's Tale is heartbreaking. A really good book.
