Mason clearly did a lot of research but his decision to mimic Heart of Darkness had seriously clouded my enjoyment of this book. I HATE passionately Heart of Darkness. While I can follow Mason's story far better than Conrad's, I honestly don't give a damn about the mystery behind the owner of the piano. I'm 2/3 of the way through this book and I'm at the point of wanting to throw it across the room.
