This author and I.... just don’t work. I thought this was better than The Wedding Date but still not my fave. With romance, I need to be sold on the couple and the characters and I wasn’t to be very honest.

Utterly delightful. Come for another knockout love story, stay for the brilliant reality Guillory writes into existence. It matters to attach race and ethnicities to romantic leads; it‘s important to have well-rounded queer characters that aren’t an accessory; it feels groundbreaking that all of this (and more) is part of the story without centering whiteness or trauma.

Not my favorite. Very slow at the beginning and lost interest also may half way through.

Enjoyed this a lot. Not quite as strong as The Wedding Date, but still really fun & it's so nice to have romance heroines who aren't either weak/helpful or uptight shrews. Loved seeing Alexa and Drew again too.

I’m eagerly anticipating the next book in this series. I also hope that some one in Hollywood is optioning these books I would love to see them played out on the screen.

I’ll admit, it took me awhile to finish this cause this was 100% my buffer book. I liked it, I thought it was sweet and nik & carlos relationship was so wholesome. they were one of those fwb that worked out so well. not too much angst, but so much understanding and love between them. I will say the book itself was rather anticlimatic, but all the messages roped into this book were awesome and I did thoroughly enjoy it.

I've pretty much always wanted to read a story about someone who was like HELL NO to a public proposal (because !?!?!?! why?!!?!?!?!? that?!?!?!!) but in true Guillory fashion, this was about 20x better than anything I could have imagined. 10/10 would recommend for a delightful read. 

Also, I really, really want to make chocolate chili cupcakes now.

Missing the Za Za Zu

Cute story but not a grabber. Had to push myself to finish. I think I was excited more about the food descriptions than the coupling of Nik and Carlos. There are some great moments and “life lessons “ to be found but overall I was underwhelmed.

I wanted to like this book more than I did. It had a solid start for me and I loved the diversity in this book. As a Mexican, I appreciated the accuracy the author had in depicting the Mexican culture, food especially, in this book. I was worried it would be stereotypical, but it wasn’t, at all. I also really appreciated the feminist aspects of the story and loved how strong and independent the main character was. 

Things I didn’t like: the sex scenes (limited as they were). Obviously she builds it up so well to that first scene and then she just speeds right through it in like, a paragraph and a half. It’s felt so rushed and bland. She basically just stated what they did rather than describe it. It took me out of the story. It’s not like I needed the sex scenes, it almost would have been better if she just fade them to black, but if you’re gonna have them, might as well make them good, right?

Also, what in the actual fuck with Carlos’ “I love you! I’m in love with you!” outburst?? That also completely took me out of it and thought it was weird and unexpected (in an off putting way). It just felt so random and out of character for him. Sure, the character himself later mentions he could have handled it better, but like, it still could have been done better lol. 

Overall, I probably would have given it 3 stars, but the diversity and accurate representation of the Mexican cultures bumped it up for me. Had the sex scenes and declaration of love been written better, it probably would have gotten 5 stars from me.

Super cute and funny! I think this might be more of a 3.5 for me. Not completely life-changing but a really nice read. Our heroine, Nik is relatable AF. I also liked hearing about Carlos because I definitely wanted to know more about him when I read about him in The Wedding Date. Their chemistry was sweet and engaging. Definitely will say that I loved the first book more and this one okay in comparison, but if you need a short and delightful read, this is it.

I totally enjoyed this book. Couldn't drop it. I loved to see a woman who knows what she wants and who isn't afraid to say no because of what someone thinks especially a man. I loved her courage. Nik is funny, caring, smart, outspoken, soft, and caring. I was so refreshing to read especially since this month has been heavy. It made me feel really single, Ha! But I just got Jasmine's other book.

I picked this book up because i thought it had a unique plot with different character types. Which it does, and I loved! But the repetitive writing, the generic and predictable plot lines hurt the book. Its a fun book to read if you want a quick, beach romance!

           This was a bit disappointing. I thought the premise was cute, but the plot development didn't progress very much. Near the middle I found myself wondering when they were going to get to it. Also, a bit of a spoiler but after their fight, the main character never addressed the very rude and hurtful things the love interest said to her in anger. After the whole women empowerment bit, I find it highly convenient that she was ready to get with him without even a talk about the really hurtful things he said.

I gave The Proposal a 4 because it was exactly what I needed at the time. A (mostly) happy and extremely easy read. I devoured it in a few quick sittings and enjoyed it for what it was.

Many of the reviews mention it being an amateur intro into the genre, and I don’t disagree. I’m very much a fan of the psycho thriller reads and don’t read as many love/romance stories. But, I thoroughly enjoyed this one! It was a light-hearted story that, while entirely predictable, was also a joy to read.

So my question to you all is: What should I read after The Proposal?
