Oh, Ruby, I didn't realize I missed reading about you. I finally got around to reading the second book and I enjoyed it as much as the first.

Just like the first, this is written as Rubys journal. I do feel we started off slow here but eventually, it got better. From finding old friends to searching for her dad, we went on a journey with Ruby. She lost a lot in her journey (but then again it is a death rain apocalypse) and learned a lot.

Reading through other reviews, a few people weren't happy with the end. I can agree to some extent. I feel like Xar's part was almost not needed with the way it ended. While one important thing did happen at his place, that could have also been done in another way. It just happened to be at his party. His ending also is left open! This is okay because this scenario has been seen before but at the same time, I don't like the idea of Xar running around.

As for Ruby, Princess, and Spratt, I am happy with their ending. It is a (in my opinion) realistic ending. Happiness with not complete closure. Virginia Bergin could easily create a short story or another book (which I don't think should happen) with the way she ended the book.

This book was very original and nothing like i've read before. The book is written like a biography which made it more interesting and the main character, Ruby, was a very mentally strong person! (I dont think My survival skills would have been that good if it happened to me! ;))

Cant wait to dig into the next book, the storm, to see how the story develops. I have so many questions from the first book i want to know and Hopefully i Will get My answers!

I Didnt like this book at all. The only reason i gave it 3stars was because of the writing style and the last chapters. This duology should've been just one book!

River would’ve never imagined that one day while on her horse on the way to her village she would stumble across a very sick male. She has 3 choises: save him, kill him or leave him. 

Mason, the sick male confuses River for a male and threatens her at one point. He escaped the sanctuary for unknown reasons.

Fast-forward, River takes Mason to her home and is told by her grandmumma to not tell anyone about the male, Mason.

Mason stays at River’s home, River has another encounter with another male, an aggressive one. A man is killed and it turns out to be Mason’s ‘father’.

And Mason is found guilty… or is he?

Okay, so I've seen a lot of negative reviews of this book, and most of them complain about our main character, Ruby. But you know what, though? She has just turned FIFTEEN YEARS OLD (the goodreads synopsis is wrong, she mentions several times in the book that she's just turned 15). She's young, you can't expect her to go all MacGyver when the whole world is dying. I think she did incredibly well for her age and the author wrote her very realistically. I would probably be acting the same way at 15, worrying more about my friends than how to get water to last another day. It's just the way teenagers think. Okay, yeah, she might be a bit of a bitch sometimes and she's definitely got a high opinion on herself, but you don't have to love the main character to love the book. Her attitude does get better throughout the book, I promise.
The book did a good job at explaining why the water is deadly and it was so interesting reading about the different ways people reacted. The situation really brought out the inner core of their personality, whether that was kindness or cruelty, selflessness or violence. And this book is so sad, so so so sad.
I really enjoyed reading this book. It was a different dystopian and well-written.

This book was a good read. It had its mix on humour, post-apocalyptic horror, and tragic situations. It was such an interesting idea for a post-apocalyptic story. The book really made you think about how much water affects our everyday lives. I also ended up reading the second half on a very rainy day and I did catch myself being very cautious when I opened the back door and windows. I enjoyed Ruby's humour, I did find her a bit immature as well but that is to be expected for a 15-year-old girl. I also really enjoyed that it took place in England. The worst part about the whole book is what happened to Whitby, I had to put the book down for a little bit. I ended up reading that page three times. I own a golden retriever so it hit home. 

Anyway good post-apocalyptic book, give it a try!

I am drawn to apocalyptic and dystopian novels and The Rain was not an exception.

The main character Ruby Morris was the most realistic character I have ever read in a YA post apocalyptic novel. Because he was so shallow and unprepared and only survived as long as she did with the help of others, Simon and Darius for example. She was caught up in her old life even once it was over and that is what at least 70% of teenagers would actually do in that situation. I didn't like her at all though. She was just too shallow and self absorbed for my liking. I like the strong independent characters not the one she was.

I also loved the concept. The rain being the antagonist was to me pure genius. Your being killed by something that once insured your survival. How ironic. But yes loved it even though there were a few plot holes like how animals were immune and that they could eat infected people and still not be affected. But hey there seems to be a second book coming out so hopefully that will answer those?
