The Reason for God

Tim makes many points that differ from the mainstream. As someone fascinated by both Apologetics & logic, I appreciate that his points aren't just supported by emotions but supported by logic.

I would highly recommend this book to legitimately ANYONE.

I'll probably take away three things from this book. **First**, is the conviction that this book is currently one of the best books written in defense of Christianity. I loved that it has a contemporary feel, and addresses the criticisms of the modern philosophers and thinkers of our time. **Second**, this book has given me a new perspective on Hell. Keller had a short section of the book in which he discussed The Rich man and Lazarus as described in Luke 16. I have often heard Pastors and Theologians say something like "Those that are in Heaven are there because God chose them, and those that are in Hell are there because they chose it." This seems like a contradiction, but Keller (with the help of C.S. Lewis) presents a picture of those in Hell that CONTINUE to choose it. In other words, there will be no repentance in Hell, no "I wish I had chosen differently." And the **third** thing I'll take away from this book, is that Keller says people "already KNOW God exists by their thoughts and actions." Keller presents the argument that all people require that others abide by their own Moral Law, which, argues Keller, could not possibly have come about without God. A wonderful book that describes in detail The Reason For God.

I found this book a welcome relief for the time we live in right now. I have struggled with the fact that so many of the people who I once believed fellow brothers and sisters in Christ have started to act in hurtful ways.
Keller digs into Scripture and presents a strong case, reassuring and much needed. I highly recommend this book.

I was looking for a kind of intro to Christianity, the foundational mental models if you will.. this book was not it. It's more written as in defense of Christianity, "apologetic". I should have done more research before picking it up. If anyone reading this has better recommendations, for any of the major religions, please do share!

A New York Times bestseller people can believe in—by "a pioneer of the new urban Christians" (Christianity Today) and the "C.S. Lewis for the 21st century" (Newsweek). Timothy Keller, the founding pastor of Redeemer Presbyterian Church in New York City, addresses the frequent doubts that skeptics, and even ardent believers, have about religion. Using literature, philosophy, real-life conversations, and potent reasoning, Keller explains how the belief in a Christian God is, in fact, a sound and rational one. To true believers he offers a solid platform on which to stand their ground against the backlash to religion created by the Age of Skepticism. And to skeptics, atheists, and agnostics, he provides a challenging argument for pursuing the reason for God.
