in this sequel of the classic childhood tale of The Little Prince, he has returned to earth after experiencing his first existential crisis. he is looking for the pilot, his first human friend from the first book. found on the side of the road, TLP is taken under the protagonist's wings. however, little princes can't stay little forever. this means, even our TLP has to grow up. 
in this beautiful sequel, he matures into a Young Prince, his heart still as pure as gold like in the first book.

comparing this sequel to the first book, i find it very interesting how the roles have reversed. in TLP, it is TLP who talks and teaches the pilot the meaning of the lost values.
however in TROTYP, the protagonist is the one teaching the (now) Young Prince values - such as the true meaning of happiness and how to forgive someone, no matter how cruel they were.
to me, it shows that teaching can go both ways. you can learn values from someone, but you can also do the same and teach them different values in return.

i've been feeling really shitty lately and this book was the exact pick-me-up i needed. it's full of wisdom, reassurance and most importantly, love. if you're feeling a little lost and need some encouragement or your heart is feeling heavy, perhaps this will be a fitting read. 🤎

though this is an unofficial sequel, it was still good! it doesn't have the same charm as TLP did, but i loved it nonetheless.

side note: anyone notice that on the cover, the end of the Young Prince's scarf is actually a reference to the fox's tail? i swear the realisation of it pulled at my heartstrings... 😭

The very first thought I had when I read through the book is that this book is by all means not necessarily a sequel to The Little Prince. It’s simply Roemmers’ story of his life and how he views the world with the prince in it. There are a few references to the first book, however, but that’s it. So keep in mind that this book is not a continuation of The Little Prince as it is a completely different story all by itself.

Sooo with that out of the way, here are my thoughts of this book!

The writing is exquisite! I can go about highlighting the entire book because all the quotes are so memorable! The narrator is very similar to the one of The Little Prince. The only difference is that these two explore an entirely different set of questions.

Both the narrator and the prince explores one problem, and as they work out a solution to this problem, they come across completely different sets of questions that needs answering as well. The way they go about it is absolutely hilarious and witty, yet moving and emotional. It’s a very quick read, about 200+ pages (the book itself is a mini hardcover. Plus it has illustrations [which are GORGEOUS by the way] so it really shouldn’t take you very long to read), yet it’s able to speak to me in SO many different ways.

My only problem with this book is the prince. He has not changed one bit (except for his age). He’s still the ever so curious little prince we all come to know about, and while i’m perfectly fine with that, I find it hard to picture the prince as an actual young adult. The narrator seem to treat him the way you’d treat a four year old. It seems that after all these years, the prince did not go through any character development whatsoever. Yes, I know it’s not exactly a sequel, and even though it does make the story very nostalgic, it would’ve been nice to see a different view of the Prince’s perspective. Instead, the book made the prince look very immature and naive..

But overall I really enjoyed this tribute ‘sequel’ to The Little Prince! The illustrations are beautiful and so are the aspects of the story. This book is like a little guide to life and it’s something you can bring along with you wherever you go. You’ll definitely learn a thing or two from it. I’m sure I did.
