4 ★ - (really liked it)

I am just barely out of a reading slump that lasted a few months and picked up this book from the library after seeing it mentioned on a list of lighthearted summer reads. This was so sweet and enchanting! The artwork is gorgeous and I love the addition of a map and glossary which most books have abandoned these days. The characters were very well rounded and my favorites were without a doubt Persimmony, Captain Gidding, Theodore, and King Lucas -- I don't think I could narrow that list down, they were all so interesting and felt very much as if they were real! 

Everything about this book was so creative and the language is simple but in a way refined (not like most books these days lol) which was also perfect because the last thing I need is a difficult book, haha! I didn't have much trouble with understanding and rereading sentences frequently throughout the book, which was a relief because I've been having some trouble with that. There were a few parts where I was almost holding my breath in anticipation and I was often intrigued by the lovely imagery and story line, which got me so excited I accidentally glanced ahead a few times and spoiled parts, whoops XD I think my favorite scenes were the ones in the cave, with Worvil or Persimmony, the writing and the grand descriptions were breathtaking. It almost felt as if I were there! 

I also laughed a lot with this book, which surprisingly doesn't happen often, but there were *so* many hilarious lines and witty remarks or details, I simply couldn't help giggling! In conclusion, this book is one I would absolutely recommend to someone in need of a fun fantasy read - I think it's enjoyable for all ages and would be a great read-aloud! Very well done :)
