“What would your real bid have been?”

“I valued the hotel at just under a hundred million. So my bid would have been two million for the minority share. Why?”

I grinned. “My bid was two point one. I would’ve won anyway.”

Weston chuckled. “Is that important to you?”

“Hell, yeah. I would’ve beaten you fair and square. Now I can lord it over you, rather than have you think you let me win.”

He smiled. “You’re going to lord it over me?”

“You know, I’m in grovel mode now. Eventually it’ll irritate me if you rub that in my face. I don’t like to lose. But it’s fine. There’s no one in this world I’d rather fight with or make up with. I see a lot of fighting and fucking in our future.”

“That’s me. Mr. Romantic. You’re one lucky girl.”

But don’t undermine her. She would’ve won. 

I picked up the paper and skimmed it. It was the same offer form I’d signed to submit my family’s bid, only this one had $1.00 filled in the spot where the bid amount was to go. My eyes scanned down to the bottom to check the signature. Sure enough, none other than Weston Lockwood had signed it.

I shook my head and looked up at Otto. “I don’t understand.”

He shrugged. “Neither did I. So I called Weston to make sure there wasn’t a mistake. He confirmed that this was indeed his family’s bid.”

“But…that means he wanted to lose?”

Otto took the paper back and folded it up. Sticking it in his pocket, he said, “I think it’s more like he wanted to make sure someone else won.”

“All along, I’d thought our arguing made her so irresistible to me. Her anger was like my flint, and I was the little boy who liked to play with matches. But in this moment, I realized it wasn’t her anger I’d been attracted to at all—it was her strength. When she walked into a room, her beauty was undeniable. When she smiled, it made my knees weak. But when she straightened her spine and her eyes glinted with determination, she wasn’t the flint to my spark. She was the fire. An undeniably beautiful wildfire.

I have it. Just waiting until she’s done to see if anything changes.

I felt like I might throw up. Though that was not exactly what I did when the bathroom door opened. 

I had so many questions. Where would I live? Where would he live? How would we separate business and our personal life when we were essentially competitors? What would our families say? Was it too soon for me to jump into something new? But the one question I knew the answer to was the one he’d just asked.

Weston smiled. “Well, that’s easy. You had me from the very start.”

Sophia’s face lit up. “Oh my God. That’s right! How the heck did you remember that?”

“You don’t forget what the dress of a woman you’ve spent half your life sneaking peeks at looks like when you finally get to slip it off of her.”

“You…you used to sneak peeks at me?”

“Every chance I got. I thought you knew that. Though your face just told me I had that wrong. Guess I was pretty stealthy after all.”

“Guess so. I really thought you hated me.”

I smirked. “Oh, I did. But I also wanted to fuck your brains out.”

She laughed. “So not much has changed, then?”

“Nah. Now I just wish I hated you.” I shook my head. “You’re impossible not to l—” I caught myself. “Like. You’re impossible not to like.”

Sophia didn’t seem to notice my slip. Or if she did, she didn’t call me out on it.

“Did I miss your birthday?” he asked.

When I offered no additional explanation, he took the hint and nodded.

That is the most depressing thing I’ve ever heard. 

Shaking my head, I said, “It wasn’t your job to make Caroline healthy. I think it’s incredible that you donated a kidney. But I’m sure you did it because you loved her, not because you felt obligated to.”

Weston scoffed. “No, Soph. It was my job. I’m a savior baby.”

My brows drew together. “A savior baby?”

He nodded. “Caroline was diagnosed at a year old. My parents conceived me through in vitro fertilization. Only zygotes that were genetically compatible to my sister and free of all genetic diseases were implanted into my mother. I was a walking inventory of spare parts.”

My mouth hung open. “Are you serious?”

“Three bone marrow transplant donations and a kidney.”

I had no idea what to say. “That’s…that’s…”

Weston smiled sadly. “Fucked up. I know. But it is what it is. I honestly didn’t think anything of it growing up. When my sister was sick, I had to stay in, too. I thought my mother was just nervous that I’d bring germs into the house and make Caroline sicker.” He shook his head. “But she wanted to make sure I didn’t get sick so if my sister needed another transplant, I’d be healthy.”

I traced her pulse down her neck with one finger. “You have no idea what your skin does to me. It’s so soft and perfect. Every day while I watch you get your coffee, I daydream about sinking my teeth into it. I want to suck on every part of your body and leave marks.”

She laughed nervously. “But then it won’t be perfect anymore, will it?”

“Actually, the only thing that could make it more perfect would be marking it as mine.”

He wrapped a hand around my neck and kissed me back, but didn’t try to make out with me. Instead, we shared a very tender first kiss. After, he pulled back.

A smile spread across his face, and his eyes grew darker. “Yeah?”

He squeezed my neck and tugged my face back to his. The second kiss wasn’t tender; Weston kissed the living shit out of me until I was breathless.

After, he dipped his mouth to my ear. “How about we keep one of your rules? You come first.”

Weston stared into my eyes. “You deserve better.”

“Maybe I don’t want better. You know, I’m pretty much an only child. So if anyone is selfish, it’s me. You might not want other people touching your things. But I want what I want.”

Weston’s eyes dropped to my lips. He reached a finger to my neck and traced my pulse from jawline to my collarbone. “Fine. But no fucking other men while your spoiled ass is getting what she wants.”

He repeated himself, this time more gruff and each word spoken in a staccato burst. “Slip. Off. Your. Panties.”

He finished one sleeve and began to work on the other. “Are you planning on fucking the nice man you’re having drinks with, Fifi?”

I glared at him. “What business is it of yours if I am?”

“I’m spoiled. You’ve said so yourself, right? Well, us spoiled people do not like to share their things.”

“Are you insinuating that I’m a thing? You’re such an asshole.”

Weston calmly finished rolling up his second sleeve and finally looked up at me. The smile that spread across his ridiculously handsome face could only be described as sinister. “You are so much more than a thing. In fact, you’re everything. That’s why I have no intention of sharing you.”

I folded my arms across my chest. “That’s not exactly your choice.”

He took a few steps toward me, and my body began to vibrate. “No, you’re right. It’s not my choice who you give your body to.” He twirled a lock of my hair around his finger and gave it a strong tug. His eyes locked with mine. “But you don’t really want anybody but me.”

Perfect hate-to-love romance! When I'm studying for a test I usually look for a distraction usually a fun contemporary romance and while I may have had a hard time sometimes putting it down, this was a good choice because it was what I needed. I completely adored Sophia and Weston's relationship and their amazing chemistry. Also, their rivalry was fun to read I enjoyed how much they loved to challenge each other and deliberately push each other's buttons. There are some great emotional aspects to it that really let to understand both what Sophia and Weston have gone through in their lives. If you're looking for hate to love, rivalry, past history, boy fall first, and secret office romance/ hook up this is definitely a good choice

This was such a cute book! I totally loved the hate-filled banter and just all the hate Sophia and Weston has for each other.

Okay yes 👏 This book was amazing. Although I wouldn't say it was enemies-to-lovers. It was more like I already liked you but we're just fucking-to-enemies-to-lovers lol. 

I absolutely loved Sophia and Weston. Everyone whose review I read stated that Sophia didn't make a mark on them and that she wasn't memorable. But to me, she was. 

She was this strong woman who loved fearlessly. And while I wish she said more, I can't say I'd be any different if I was in a situation. She needed the job security 🤷 And you know me, I'm more of a job than family kind of girl. 

Weston's background story was just incredibly sad. I still can't get over how fucked up his life was. So yes, I absolutely understand (not really, because that's something only he can understand completely) everything he went through and his thought process. I don't blame him for ANYTHING. 

I'm surprised at how grateful I am about the miscommunication in this book? Like usually I'm all for a little morally grey plot twist but this didn't have that and I'm so fucking happy? 

I was annoyed at one stage where I thought the bidding wouldn't happen but when it did in an unnatural way, I was literally so fucking happy lolol.

But yes, this book was amazing and kept creeping into my thoughts when I was out-and-about in the streets of Canada. 

One thing I'd like to change is the amount of fucking they do? I'm wholly aware that's the base of this book but I deadass couldn't feel any emotion in their fucking. It's a personal thing before someone who reads this attacks me 👍🏻 I really want to read books where the main characters love language isn't physical touch because yours truly isn't a fan of that 🤩 

Anyways, I do recommend this book if you need something light. It isn't too heavy and it's a pretty fast read.

I liked the book but didn't enjoy it as much as her previous books I still think it was a good story but it seemed more surface level and it the plot didn't go as deep as her other books do.

Sophia and Weston’s story was a fun and quick read. I just wished I loved it more than I did. I just felt like something was missing and I wanted more. But definitely a good read, and I’ll most definitely be revisiting their story in the future.

Since Rebel Heir this is my next favorite by Vi. Weston and Sophia were amazing and I loved the enemies-to-lovers side, besides their chemistry was totally off the charts🔥 all their sexy encounters were steamy and the banter got me every time they were together... 

I also loved how both had some drama with their families but still they didn’t gave up on their beliefs. Sophia was amazing and I enjoyed when she gave her dad a hard time. Weston was pretty amazing too, at the beginning he looked like just another player with money but through the book we realized he’s more than that, he’s trying to overcome his demons and I loved his relationship with Mr. Thorne.

Besides, the story is easy to read and I totally recommend it, I always love reading new stories from Vi <3

Vi’s romances are always a fun way to spend the day reading and never let me down! I loved the dynamic of Sophia and Weston in this one. Definitely recommend if you’re looking for a fun, rivals to lovers romance!
