This review was originally posted on Addicted To RomanceI received this book for free from Avon in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review. The Rogue of Fifth Avenue is the first book in Joanna Shupe's new series "Uptown Girls" I have had a blast with what I read from this author before and I am so pleased that we are seeing more books taking place in the "Gilded Age Era" Romance readers really value seeing some unique settings that aren't really covered in the romance genre and I am delighted with how Shupe has really taken her stories in this world she has created. I was curious about this new series, and I am so pleased that I read this one because I had a blast with this book. Its not perfect but full of so many well packed elements it sweeps you away into this romantic age of American History. Our story begins with Frank Tipp, who is a high society lawyer in New York City. Frank is called upon to take in hand the daughter of one of his elite clients, Mamie Greene. Mamie Greene has a passion for adventure and helping others. Mamie wants to reach to those that are poor and give a helping hand whenever she can especially for those that are living on the streets and have no voice. What she doesn't need is some fancy uptown lawyer getting in her way and preventing her from doing what she can. But when a close friend of hers is in legal trouble, Frank steps up and they begin working together to exonherate her friend, but their forbidden love is about to take a step into the direction both of them never truly imagined, will Frank and Mamie be up to the challenge? Or do what society expects of them? The Rogue of Fifth Avenue is a stimulating read that grabbed my attention from the very beginning and I loved so much about this story. Frank and Mamie's chemistry is over the top and we see that its been building for months with Frank having to watch out for Mamie under her father's orders. But their intimate relationship is forbidden because Mamie is betrothed to another man and she knows her father will ruin Frank and all that he has worked for if he ever finds out that there is more than just a platonic relationship happening. Now I believe the only issue I really had is Mamie at times. I really liked her character for the most part but she was a bit flighty at times and reckless in how she treats Frank at times. Frank I was on board with 100%, and I felt that in some ways Mamie could be reckless with Frank and his career. Its obvious that there was high risk that he would lose everything and from what I could see it seemed like Mamie didn't seem to have a care for the risks involved. I did love her passion for life and standing up for what was right and we do some great character growth in her but at times I did want to straighten her out. Now for our beloved hero, Frank. *sigh* he was sexy as all get out. I love what is he willing to do for Mamie, even risk everything he has worked for. Frank grew up in the slums but left that world behind and made a life for himself and now lives uptown, working with high society and has made a success in his career. I had so much respect for all that he worked hard for and gained but we see him learn the value in doing what is right even at the cost of everything. He puts Mamie as his priority and that was amazing to see in that his love for her, he was willing to fight for her and what she deserved. He is the book boyfriend of the year. Overall I found Rogue of Fifth Avenue to be a astounding read that takes you back to the Gilded Age, packed with intrigue, a story line to keep you on edge, and a love story that packs a punch with sensuality and epic fighting for your love!!

👍🏼 “enemies” to lovers, pretty good hardest thing to get passed was probably her name was Mamie which just sounds weird to me (lol)

This was my first Joanna Shupe book and I absolutely adored it. I have never read an American historical romance and I definitely picked the right one to read first. The plot was so interesting as Mamie and Frank found each other. I really enjoyed this one!

I really enjoyed this. I love the legal and courtroom aspects. I love the fact that the main character is pushing the boundaries of what it means to be a women at this point in history during the suffragette movement. I loved how Frank goes from trying to stop her and underestimating her to trusting her and loving how rebellious and compassionate she is. I really loved how steamy this was, and how the author handled scenes regarding consent. I also thoroughly enjoyed how strong family played into the book. It was great. I would recommend this to anyone who wants to break out from traditional historical romances that place in England considering this takes place in America. I fully plan to continue on with the series. I'm hoping Florence's book is next.

I really did love my first historical fiction reads, set out of England. I also loved both main characters and also like how the law and order got invoked. I also really loved the female lead and how she was trying so hard to find her path in life. I also loved the "robin" hood element of this read. It was super quick listen as well. I will def pick up the other books in this series soon!

Frank Tripp is the toast of New York City's legal scene, a status achieved both by his hard work, his smarts, and his complete excising of his past. He has much to gain, and lose, if he can't maintain the favor of the rest of society's elite. So as Frank helplessly continues to try and stop heiress Mamie Greene from ruining herself completely with her antics at gambling hells and other unsavory establishments, he has to worry if he'll find trouble with her father. Mamie wants nothing to do with Frank's meddling, she's got her life perfectly handled. So what if he think she's simply a spoiled rich girl out for fun, she's actually using her skills to help the women of the neighborhoods she shouldn't dare be seen in. And Mamie knows she has to marry her childhood friend, the man selected by her father, and even if she wanted a dalliance with Frank, she can't risk her or or younger sisters' futures...can she? As both Mamie and Frank realize they are far more than they seem, their undeniable attraction alights, with huge consequences for them both. A deliciously steamy romance with social justice and feminism in spades, a definite must read. Also, when the blurb says Frank is silver-tongued...they really aren't joking. One of my favorite billiards table scenes ever. Yum.

I finally read my first Joanna Shupe book and I'm never going to be the same. There were a million little things to love about this one, but none perhaps more than the characters themselves. Mamie and Frank gave me all the swoons. Mamie made my feminist heart sing. What a strong and independent heroine! The historical NYC setting was fantastic, too.

I haven't read a historical romance in a while, and this one did not disappoint! I just LOVED Frank & Mamie's story! "Excitement lies just below Forty-Second Street and Mamie Greene is determined to explore all of it—while playing a modern-day Robin Hood along the way. What she doesn’t need is her father’s lawyer dogging her every step and threatening her efforts to help struggling families in the tenements." This is my first Joanna Shupe novel. I fell in love with the book cover and the title and chose it based on those two things only. Risky, but it paid off. The story takes place in 1890 New York. A refreshing change! Mamie is the oldest of three sisters and is betrothed to a childhood family friend. It is an arranged betrothal meant for business purposes only. Enter the rough and tumble Frank Tripp, the family lawyer who has taken it upon himself to follow Mamie around town to get her out of various escapades. Think New York princess turned Robin Hood. They team up to help a woman accused of murdering her (abusive) husband and in the process expose the corruption in the police force prevalent during the time. This story has it all - romance, gambling, murder, cage fighting (not really) and secret pasts. There's also the matter of a forced engagement that needs to be dealt with. It read relatively quickly and I found that once I hit the 45% mark I couldn't put it down. My Ratings: 5*****I loved this book, consider it an all time favorite 4**** Thoroughly enjoyed the book and will recommend it 3*** I liked it well enough, 2** Brain Candy - It was okay. Writing mediocre, will keep/re-read if part of a series 1* didn't like/possibly not finished.
